INTRODUCTION
Welcome to My U.S. History Class page. Parents, to see your child's grades log on to Skyward. You can access my U.S. History Class website on the Pearland High School website.
Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government. - Thomas Jefferson
EXPECTATIONS and GOALS
The goal of this class is for students to gain a knowledge and understanding of American History by examining political, economic, social, and cultural developments from the post Civil War period to recent times. They will see the connection between the past and present and better understand current events in the United States. Students will also be exposed to new ways of thinking about American history – going beyond memorizing names and dates and figuring out why things happened the way they did. My expectation is that this will, in turn, make for more informed and tolerant citizens of our nation and the world community.
If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday. - Pearl Buck

GRADING POLICY
The Pearland ISD grading policy is listed in the high school student handbook, pages 6 and 7. A copy of the handbook can be found on the school website. I, Mr. Macneish, will adhere to this policy.
• It is the student’s responsibility to complete all makeup work in the time allotted.
• All makeup work needs to be completed in tutorials or at home (except quizzes or tests – tutorials ONLY).
Nine week grades are calculated by dividing the number of points earned by the number of points possible. The number of points available is reflective of the number of times students will be asked to demonstrate competency. The total will vary according to class need.
COURSEWORK
Each of the following will be a factor in your overall grade in this class.
1. Class discussion, group work, activities, participation.
2. Assignments – in class assignments and homework (only if necessary).
3. Maintaining a notebook – it is important that you keep an ongoing notebook of assignments, grades, notes, etc.
4. Quizzes
5. Exams
6. Projects – group and individual
7. Extra Credit

CLASSROOM RULES:
Conduct greatly affects academic ability. You can improve your grade by observing the
following rules.
A. Bring all required materials to class everyday. This means bring your binder, agenda, homework, reading materials, paper, and a pen or pencil.
B. Be in your assigned seat and ready to begin work when you walk in the door. Restroom and
other needs must be taken care of before the bell rings. Once class begins, there will
be no opportunities to address these needs until the end of class after instruction has
concluded – except in an emergency. Remember classes are 49 minutes long and each minute is critical for your success.
C. Respect and be polite to all people and their property.
D. Cell phones are not to be used for personal use during the class period. They may be used for educational purposes only with the teacher’s permission. Any cell phone that is used during class for personal reasons will be confiscated and may only be picked up after school on Mondays. If an electronic device is used for cheating in any way, it will be picked up and turned into the AP’s office.
E. Obey all school rules.
MAKEUP WORK
Make-up work is the responsibility of the student. Most assignments will be posted on my website in the Assignments tab. Ask the teacher for the missed assignment(s) if it is something that can’t be printed from the website. Students are given the equivalent amount of time to make up work as the number of days they were absent. Make up work is not late work. Make up work occurs because of an absence.
TARDIES
BE ON TIME FOR CLASS!! If for some reason (valid or not) you are late for class, follow the guidelines below:
• If you are between 1 and 5 minutes late (after the tardy bell rings), report to the tardy calculator and return to class with a pass as quickly as possible.
• If you are more than 5 minutes late for class, report directly to the tardy room (next to the book room), you are considered truant and will be marked absent for the class period.
