Holocaust Memoir

Holocaust Memoir

Imagine life as an oppressed minority in Europe during World War II. Write a narrative from that perspective. Include a scene where the protagonist recounts a conversation with an important person in his/her life. Establish a coherent plot using a variety of techniques (dialogue, sensory language, pacing, events, etc).

Directions: You are going to take the identity of the person on your ID card from the Holocaust. You are going to construct a memoir following the guidelines provided below.

Entry #1 – DESCRIBE YOURSELF

- In a 1 page essay, write the story of yourself before the war. Describe things you liked to do, people who were in your family, etc. Be creative!

Entry #2 – MEMORY OF THE BEGINNING OF THE WAR

- In a half page essay, describe what your person may have been doing at the beginning of the war. If your info sheet doesn’t say, then you need to make it up!

Entry #3 – YOU DURING THE WAR

- You are going to write a 2 page essay of experiences during the war. You can use examples of things that happened in Elie in the novel Night. You need to go into specific details!

Entry #4 – AFTER THE WAR

- This entry will be a 1 page essay written about what happens to you after the war. I know some of your people pass away, so you will just have to make an entry as a dead person. . . .Yes it is weird, but oh well.
