Applying to the college is a separate process from applying to the program. You can apply to the college online by going to jefferson.kctcs.edu and select the “Apply” link, then follow the directions from there. Be sure to submit all official transcripts to the Admission’s Office, when applying to the college. When selecting a major, use either Health Sciences Technology or Associates in Applied Sciences. Once you are accepted & enrolled into the A.D.N. Program, we will change your major to Nursing. If you are a student that has not taken any classes for one or more semesters, you must apply to the college again, in order to be eligible for enrollment and for your KCTCS email account to be activated. If you are currently enrolled at another KCTCS college, transfer of your Home Campus to JCTC must be done AFTER the current semester grades are posted. NLN Pre-Admission Exam-RN (PAX-RN): register to take the PAX-RN exam; see page 5 for detailsPreadmissions Conferences (MANDATORY to attend one): It is necessary to attend a preadmission’s conference in order to receive an application to the program. It is important that you register using an active email address. You also need a student ID; therefore, if you do not have one, please apply to the college first. It is necessary to remain for the entire session. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will have to register for another conference.Only students who are ready to apply to the Nursing program should attend one of the mandatory preadmission’s conferences. You must attend a Preadmission’s Conference within six months of the application deadline. If you are not yet ready to apply to the A.D.N. Program or if you have transcripts from another college to be evaluated, please see an advisor in the Advising Center and they will let you know which classes will transfer, that are required for the nursing program. However, it is ultimately the Admission’s Office that approves transfer credits. Applicants are highly encouraged to complete as many as possible (especially biology courses, which must be taken in sequence) before entering nursing classes or during the summer semester, if it falls prior to the semester the classes are required. All General Education courses have online options available, but KCTCS biology class sizes are very limited and fill up quickly. Students can be enrolled in pre-requisites in the Fall semester and still be eligible to apply for the following Spring semester. Students can be enrolled in pre-requisites in the Spring semester, but not Summer semesters and still be eligible to apply for Fall semester. In order to qualify for Priority Admission status, all pre-application requirements and all co-requisite coursework must be completed with the grades posted to your transcript by the application deadline. Your Nursing GPA must be a minimum of 3.0 and on the PAX-RN score report, you must have a Composite Score of 105 or higher and a Verbal Percentile Rank Score of 50 or higher. Recommend submitting an application by the deadline, then when grades are posted, notify the administrative assistant to change your application to priority status.NLN Pre-Admission Exam-RN (PAX-RN)The PAX-RN is a National League for Nursing (NLN) standardized, computerized test that measures proficiency in Verbal ability (comprehension and vocabulary), Math, and Science at the 12th grade level. All three sections must be taken on the same assigned date. Each section has 40-70 questions and the cumulative time limit is 3 hours for the exam, calculated at 1.3 minutes per question. There is no limit to the number of times you may take the exam; however, you cannot test twice on the same day. Registration requires a payment of $40.00 for the exam and $35.00 for it being proctored; subject to change without notification. There are PAX Study Guides and Videos at select PAX Study Guide and VideosApplicants must take this exam, and score a minimum of 105 composite, with a minimum of 50 in the Verbal Percentile Rank to be considered for admission into the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Jefferson Community & Technical College (JCTC). Results can be printed anywhere from 45 minutes to 6 hours following the computer-based exam, or retrieved from the NLN website for up to one year after the exam, free of charge. This means you must remember your username and password. A printed copy of the results must be submitted for application to the Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.) Program; results are not sent to the college. NLN testing services has launched a new website that will allow our institution to utilize remote proctoring. ?The cost of the exam is approximately $55, subject to change without notice. Applicants previously admitted to another nursing program, and who have earned a failing grade in any nursing course will not be accepted for admission into the A.D.N. program at JCTC. However, you may apply as a new student starting at the beginning of the A.D.N. program. Potential candidates must meet all admission requirements of the JCTC A.D.N. Nursing Program as outlined on page 4, in this Program Guide. If it has been more than three years since initial enrollment in the first nursing course in any registered nursing program, an applicant must repeat all nursing courses.Beginning summer 2015, Jefferson Community and Technical College will no longer conditionally admit transfer students; students will be required to submit ALL official, postsecondary transcripts to the Admission’s Office prior to enrollment at Jefferson Community and Technical College. JCTC will require official transcripts even if the student does not plan to use the coursework to satisfy the requirements for the Nursing Degree for the Nursing Program. Prospective students must also submit an online application to the College. Recommend keeping SRNA current throughout the nursing program in case of need to apply for readmission.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS(Upon acceptance into the A.D.N. Program)Once an applicant is accepted into the Nursing Program, official copies of all previous transcripts, must be requested by the student from the original school and sent, unopened, to the JCTC Admission’s Office. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all previous transcripts are on file with the Registrar at JCTC. (Please DO NOT send official copies of transcripts to the Nursing Office; once they are opened by anyone other than the Admission’s Office, they are no longer official and will have to be resent.)Mandatory Orientation All students that are accepted to the A.D.N. Program are required to attend orientation, which is held one day, the week prior to the start of classes. Students will be notified of the specific date in their letters of acceptance, which are emailed to their KCTCS and personal email addresses.Criminal Background Check (BC) and Drug Screening (DS)There are specific codes that must be used with CastleBranch and they will be given to students when they are accepted. All incoming nursing students will be required to complete a national Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening according to the Allied Health & Nursing Division Policy and Procedures. The policy and directions for this procedure will be supplied in the acceptance packet, for admission. Failure to comply with this requirement by the designated deadline may result in dismissal from the Program.The cost is $61.20 through CastleBranch, a background screening and compliance tracking solutions pletion of criminal background check (instructions and a deadline date will be specified in the students’ letter of acceptance to the Program, which is sent by email). If clinical placement is not possible due to a criminal record, the Program Coordinator will notify the student by email and the student will be permitted to withdraw rather than failing the course due to the inability to fulfill course pletion of required drug screen (instructions and deadline will be specified in the students’ letter of acceptance to the Program, which is sent by email).Failure to comply by the specified deadlines may result in the student’s removal from the class roster.Immunization and Physical Examination Requirements This is a one-time fee of $25.00 and the account belongs to the student for life, which is used to track verification of Immunizations and additional documentation such as CPR certification. Documentation is uploaded to CastleBranch.Once the student is admitted to the program, they must submit a Physical Examination form and verification of immunizations, which must be signed by the health care provider. Do not submit immunization records along with your application; they will not be processed by the Nursing Division Office. They will be uploaded to CastleBranch by the student.Influenza during flu season, between August 30th and October 1st; documentation of vaccination will be required by October 15th each fall semester or upon entry into the program in the spring semesterMMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)TB (Tuberculosis) screening-Two-Step: step one, vaccine given then read after 48-72 hours, step two, repeat step one between seven to twenty one days (not one day earlier and not one day later)TETANUS, DIPHTHERIA and PERTUSSIS (Tdap)Varicella (Chicken Pox): series of 2 doses, 4 weeks apart or results of a Varicella titer, with verification of immunity (positive result). Hepatitis B vaccination (series of 3 doses, 2nd dose due one month after 1st dose; 3rd dose is due approximately 5 months after 2nd dose). Or (series of 2 doses of Hepsaliv-B given at least 4 weeks apart). The student may attend clinical once the series is started with the first dose.Physical Assessment on JCTC’s form (will be on page 3 of the immunization packet when notified of acceptance).COVID release and potential COVID Vaccine requirement. We anticipate our healthcare facilities will be requiring the COVID vaccine starting with Fall 2021 semester and you should anticipate this becoming a requirement.Total cost for CastleBranch BC, DS, and uploading of documents is $86.20. Detailed information regarding CastleBranch will be included in the students’ letter of acceptance to the A.D.N. Program, which is sent by email. Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification. The only two levels of CPR accepted are from American Heart Association (Healthcare/BLS Provider) or the American Red Cross (Professional Rescuer). Please note that HST 104 course includes CPR certification. Costs/Financial InformationThe fee schedule may be found in the Kentucky Community and Technical College catalog. In addition to tuition, nursing students are responsible for associated costs such as transportation to clinical sites, payment for liability insurance, books, internet access, software /electronic access to class resources, national computerized exams, lab kits and uniforms. Nursing students must have access to a laptop and to the internet. Coursework cannot be managed using only a Smartphone or tablet. Students are responsible for maintaining acceptable financial standing to remain in nursing classes. Nursing faculty or staff cannot negotiate with the Financial Aid office on behalf of any student. Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) RequirementsThe Kentucky Board of Nursing reserves the right to deny a nursing graduate the right to take the NCLEX-RN (licensing examination to become a Registered Nurse) if an individual has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony that involved acts bearing directly on the qualifications or the ability of the graduate to practice nursing.
