7L Spelling and Homework Tasks Term 3

SPELLING

Pre-test – IN CLASS

We will pre-test the spelling list words every Monday. This will be done as an entire class.

The words you do not spell correctly are your spelling words for the week. Personal words will also be added to the list and will be taken from mistakes in your writing (English books or previous homework).

Spelling List – IN CLASS

You need 20 spelling words for the week.

If you are short of 20 spelling words take the words from the Challenge words at the bottom of the pre-tested

spelling list. If you still need more to make up the 20 words, take the words from the Theme Challenge words on the wall in the classroom or in your Sound Waves book.

You will be tested on these words every Friday.

Spelling Homework – AT HOME

1. All work to be written neatly and finished in your Homework Book

2. If you lose your book you will need to get another one

3. You will need to write out your Spelling words (20 words) 4 times each, in columns. (This work is to be done as neat as possible and set out as instructed)

4. You will need to choose 10 Spelling words and write 10 separate complex sentences

a. Each Sentence is to be numbered and you will need to underline the spelling word.

Spelling Homework will be due every Friday (5 days to complete)

HOMEWORK

Reading – AT HOME and IN CLASS

In Year 7 it is your responsibility to read every night before you go to sleep or at another time of your convenience. To assist you with this, you will be provided with a reading log to record your reading information (This should be glued into your homework book). Additional to this at the end of each book you will be required to provide a brief book review. These can be glued into your homework book alongside your spelling homework.

English – There will be a writing task due every 2 weeks. These tasks will be an extension of the work done in class.

The outline for this is as follows:

• Week 2 Friday 19th July

“Settings activity” 50-100 words each: /20

• Week 4 Friday 2nd August

“Problem and Resolution” story development:

100 – 150 words each: /20

• Week 6 Friday 16th August

Narrative story writing using “Possible Story Beginnings”

250-300 words: /20

• Week 8 Friday 30th August

Poetry: rhyming, repetition and rhythm: /20

• Week 10 Friday Sept 13

Poetry: Haiku, Cinquain, diamante: /20

For those of you who wish to extend your skills please choose a story title from the ‘Possible Story Beginnings” and write a story and hand it in on Friday with your other homework tasks.

Weeks 1-11 Studyladder tasks – Complete the weekly Maths tasks

Maths – Complete weekly Maths revision/ Maths mentals activities –Maths homework will be given out each Monday after the weekly spelling test and will be glued or written into your homework books.

Responsibility

As a Year 7 Leader it is your responsibility to organise your time and energy to complete homework. It is not your parent’s responsibility. If you are finding homework difficult or think that the 5 days to complete it is not long enough then you need to speak to me immediately and we will discuss your issues with homework.

If your reason for not completing homework for the week is Time Management then homework will be completed during Play Time at school on the Friday if necessary. Continually missing homework means that a Time Management problem has resulted and I will call your Parents to discuss how we can work on a schedule for this issue.
