Cost of Living in San Diego

Name: ______________________

Some of your friends are telling you that they want to take at least one year off from school when they graduate. They say they want to get an apartment, possibly with a roommate and get a full-time job. Help your friend determine their budget for the basic necessities: rent, vehicle & utilities.

The average income for a full-time individual with only a high school diploma is $33,176 before taxes (ohe.state.mn.us). Finding a job right out of high school, however, that offers this annual salary may be hard to find. Using the internet or local newspaper, find at least 3 full-time job listings offered in the San Diego area that require no more than a high school diploma. In order to list them, the ad must show the hourly rate/salary as well as the business location. (Print ads and attach).

|Business: |Location: |Occupation Title: |Hourly Rate/Salary: |

Of the three job listings you chose above, choose one to calculate the following:

|Gross Monthly Income | |

|(assume 40 hours/week for 4.5 weeks) | |

|Net Monthly Income | |

|(subtract 20% of the Gross) | |

Look up the average monthly cost of the following by checking online ads, the PennySaver, the newspaper, asking your parents etc. Assume that your friend is looking for a place to live in East County, has a good driving record and has a $200 car payment for his/her 2010 Honda Civic.
