Common problems with chevy equinox 2015

One of the most popular midsize SUVs since its introduction in 2005 is the Chevrolet Equinox. Seating for five, available all-wheel drive, and fuel efficiency have always been part of the mission for this model. Since its first generation, its been a solid performer. But, like any other vehicle, you hear about Chevrolet Equinox problems from time to time. There have been concerns with the engine on a Chevrolet Equinox throughout the years. Throughout the first and second generations, the Chevrolet Equinox engine choices included a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a V6, and both have seen their fair share of complaints. More so than other models? That's debatable. Nonetheless, there's been enough talk about Chevy Equinox engine problems that it warrants a discussion. And if you ever need to sell a Chevrolet equinox with a blown engine, CarBrain can help. Common Equinox Problems Across its three generations, the Equinox has displayed a few trouble spots they all potentially share. Chevy Equinox Starter Problems Perhaps it's because there are hundreds of thousands of Equinox models sold in the world since 2005. Or maybe there's actually a trend. Either way, Chevy Equinox starter problems have been a topic for 14 years. You'll be able to tell it's a starter issue when you turn the key and nothing happens. The starter can unexpectedly quit without any warning, leaving you stranded. While it's an electrical component and these things can happen, it's been reported that the Equinox experiences more frequent starter issues than other models. Starter replacement is a relatively simple procedure, yet comes with a cost. You can expect a new starter to cost between $400 and $850 between parts and labor, depending on the engine and trim level. Chevy Equinox 2.4 L Engine Problems First- and second-gen Equinox models shared the 2.4-liter engine. It's a four-cylinder engine that makes 182 horsepower on a good day. It's used across a handful of other Chevy and GM models including the Buick Verano and GMC Terrain. All can potentially experience the same Chevy 2.4 liter engine problems. Most frequently, the complaint is for excessive oil consumption. Some owners report their Equinox consuming more than a quart of oil per 1,000 miles. By the time it's due for an oil change, the crankcase could be virtually empty. Low engine oil from excessive oil consumption is a leading factor for a blown engine. Luckily, the oil consumption issues show up while the vehicle still has (or had) powertrain warranty in effect. If the repairs are necessary outside of warranty coverage, it can cost $3,000 or more for Chevy Equinox engine replacement alone, not considering any other costs that can come up. So the next time you ask yourself if you can trade in an Equinox with a blown engine, do you think the dealer would want to deal with those repairs? Chevy Equinox Recalls Through its years, the Equinox has been subject to many recalls. In nearly every case, they aren't serious but are more of a customer satisfaction repair or inspection. However, 2019 Chevy Equinox recalls seem abnormally high in quantity. The earliest of these second-gen models could have 10 recalls, perhaps more, requiring frequent visits to the dealer. And yes, the Takata airbag inflator recall is one of them. Chevy Equinox Power Reduced/Check Engine Light Throttle body issues prevailed with the Equinox over several years. Drivers would see "Engine Power Reduced" in the message center along with the Check Engine Light. Acceleration was all but gone and the popular midsize SUV had to return to the dealership to have it fixed before the car would drive right again. The issue was a simple electrical problem in the throttle body, but it is debilitating when it happens. It's probably one of the most widespread Chevy Equinox issues that could happen more than once. The repair is just changing out the side cover on the throttle body, then the vehicle was back to normal. It's simple and it takes less than 90 seconds... click the button below to get started and find out how much your junk vehicle is worth! Vehicle Pick-up is FREE Nationwide. No Haggle. No Fees. We are A+ rated business at BBB. Models with Higher than Normal Complaints Naturally, there are some years where complaints for Chevrolet Equinox engine problems are higher than others. Not all concern are the common concerns that we've already looked at either. 2005 Chevy Equinox Problems In 2005, the Equinox was in its introductory year. Kinks hadn't been worked out with the engines though. An overwhelming number of owners reported a blown head gasket. For the 3.4-liter V6 engine in 2005, one or both head gaskets would develop a massive leak that often lead to a blown engine. And over time, after putting many miles on the Chevrolet engine, there may be a risk for a cracked engine block. 2010 Chevy Equinox Problems In 2010, it came to light once again that Equinox models were experiencing huge problems with the engine. This is where the oil consumption problem took center stage. Predominantly in the four-cylinder engine, the piston rings would not seal against the cylinder walls properly. Customers experienced massive engine oil loss as it was burned in the combustion chamber and blown out the tailpipe. Some had their engine replaced completely while others received an engine rebuild. Still another problem reared its ugly head at times. Timing chains were displaying signs of early wear and stretching, causing clacking and engine knocking noises. If the chains break, the engine is toast. Timing chain replacement became a frequent warranty procedure for the Equinox too. 2011 Chevy Equinox Problems In 2011, the problem seemed to be exacerbated for both of the same concerns from 2010. Reports of excessive oil consumption increased, as did clattering noises when starting the car. Another repair was added to the mix in 2011: camshaft solenoid replacement. The variable valve timing system has a weak point and would cause the vehicle to shut off while driving, putting drivers in a dangerous situation. 2012 Chevy Equinox problems were more of the same, although the failed timing chains and camshaft solenoid replacements gained in `popularity', or more accurately, frequency. It was in 2012 that GM released a repair that prevented it from happening again for most customers. 2015 Chevy Equinox Problems By 2015, GM had a good grasp on the engine issues and the repair frequencies had dwindled considerably. That's not to say there aren't still problems with the 2015 model ? there are. Electrical concerns about parasitic draws on the battery, infotainment problems, and the occasional engine issue still came up. Third-Gen Equinox Problems The newest iteration of the Chevrolet Equinox hasn't had much time to reveal flaws yet. There are a few reported problems related to oil pressure and the odd turbo failure. Perhaps Chevrolet has mastered the compact SUV segment...or perhaps it's going to take more time to unveil the complaints. The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for routine maintenance, the dealer inspected and diagnosed that there was a leak near the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) main seal. The dealer replaced the pcv main seal and intake. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no open recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000. See all problems of the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox . The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that during the cold weather months, the pcv valve would become clogged which caused oil to leak from the vehicle. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who notified of a service bulletin that he linked to the failure and referred her to a dealer. The contact called the dealer who acknowledged the failure and informed her that the vehicle needed to be inspected and might be covered under warranty. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and informed her that the vehicle would not be covered under warranty. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 66,260. See all problems of the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox . The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an unknown speed, the check engine warning light and the low oil pressure warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact noticed that the vehicle was leaking oil. The contact who is a licensed mechanic diagnosed that the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) valve, and intake manifold needed to be replaced. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000. My 2013 Equinox has a plugged pcv system. Ironically, this is the same exact issue related to a special coverage adjustment put out by chevy. Special coverage adjustment 14882. My car falls into the timeframe of 10 years and under 120,000. 00 to have this covered for free but they say my VIN wasn't included in this special adjustment. Because my part wasn't made a plant who decided to put out this bulletin, I am just screwed? dealer had an Equinox in the shop at the same time as mine with the exact issue, his car was older than 2013 but his VIN was included. Clearly this is an issue and it isn't right to assume that maybe some parts were missed and can still have the issue even if they weren't made at a particular plant. I want an answer as to why they aren't willing to at least pay half when they are claiming some responsibility and just trying to tell me that my particular part has reached the end of it's life and nothing to do with the VIN's that are included in this adjustment. That is a poor excuse. I was dropping my daughter off at work when all this noise started happening and made it the couple blocks home. Now it has been sitting at the shop for 6 weeks while I have been trying to figure this out. Luckily my other daughter has a car I have been able to use for immediate needs but this is beyond ridiculous. This is a safety issue and something that is a problem with chevy and no one wants to take ownership. The contact's daughter owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, his daughter noticed that oil was leaking underneath the vehicle. The contact stated that he checked the oil level of the vehicle and noticed that the vehicle was low on oil. The contact added 3 quarts of oil to the engine. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving 50-55 mph, the vehicle started making abnormal sounds. The contact's daughter veered to the side of the road. The contact met his daughter and checked the oil level. The contact noticed that the oil level was 2 quarts low and topped off the oil; however, the failure reoccurred the following day and the vehicle was jerking. The warning message "reduced power" was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the pcv valve had caused a rear main seal failure, which damaged the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and the contact inquired why his daughter's vehicle was not included in gm technical service bulletin no. : 14882 but the manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. See all problems of the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox . The contact owns 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the contact continued driving to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that there was no oil in the engine and that the pcv valve was damaged and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,500. See all problems of the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox . The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking oil as oil was found on the garage floor. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the diagnosis was that the pcv valve was frozen however, the repairs were unknown to the contact as the mechanic stated that the issue was resolved. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving the oil warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic. The independent mechanic started the vehicle and noticed oil was leaking from the rear main seal. The engine and transmission needed to be removed to replace the rear main seal. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the mechanic informed him that there was a recall for the failure. The contact stated that he called the dealer and manufacture and it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact was referring the failure to an unknown manufacturer recall. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000. Chevy Equinox has known TSB 14882 for blocked pcv port due to too small design. Exhaust and gas smell enters cabin and makes CO alarm go off. Feeling of whoosy and safety issue. Gm called and reported issue but they refused to even look at vehicle. If exhaust from engine venting due to high pressure with pcv known clog issue - could cause loss of consciousness next time. Consider this a near miss. The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in for service, it was discovered that water was present inside the engine pcv. The contact was informed that the condition could lead to engine damage. The contact was informed that a hole needed to be drilled into the pcv unit to allow airflow. The contact was informed that the manufacturer had issued an extended warranty coverage for the issue however, her model year vehicle was not included. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,000. Our car was parked outside for the weekend and we were planning to return home. It was around 14?f outside and starting to snow. Approximately 10 minutes into the trip home, the 2016 chevy Equinox started to make some faint abnormal sounds. Shortly after the instrument cluster displayed a stabilitrak warning. I presumed an issue with the traction control and continued to drive. Shortly after the Equinox went into a failsafe/power limiting mode. We (my wife and young daughters were with me) were within a few miles of a gas station so we decided to try to drive there to not be in the cold weather. Before reaching a gas station, the car stalled and needed to be towed to a service shop. The car was diagnosed with a blown rear main seal causing catastrophic engine failure. It was determined the pcv valve froze causing excess crankcase pressure, blowing the rear main seal. The Equinox had 89,277 miles on it at the time. "tow" costs: $149. 18 engine replacement cost: $6504. 30 at no point did any oil related (level, pressure) indicator appear. My car has the same problem as bulletin 14882 states. On a day it was 0 degrees my car started smoking and the engine started rattling. I pulled off the highway and saw oil coming out between the motor and transmission. Bulletin 14882 states that 2010 thru 2014 Equinox cars with the 2. 4 ecotec have this problem due to frozen pcv valve and the motor building up pressure blowing out the rear main seal. My car has 80,000 miles on it. The bulletin states that cars under 10 yers old or under 120,000 miles is to be covered. Cheverolet says my VIN is not in this recall. I was on the highway 10 minutes after leaving my house when this happened. The car is not able to be driven and had to be towed. See all problems of the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox . While driving the Equinox on a very cold day (9 degrees), I began to lose power as I approached my place of work. Thankfully, my vehicle made it to the small road off of the state route I was traveling, which is 55mph. Upon turning off of the road, my engine completely shut off and I lost all acceleration and power from the engine. I got out of the vehicle to find oil all over the bottom of frame of my vehicle. Upon getting to my office, I looked up what could have caused the issue. Gm has published service bulletin 14882 that claims certain models of vehicles, including the 2013 Equinox, can experience a plugged pcv orifice on very cold days, which could result in the blowout of the rear main oil seal of the engine. I had hoped this was not my issue, but it seemed to fit the bill. I had the vehicle towed to a local gm service center and to be diagnosed. The service manager called me two days later to inform me that my rear main oil seal (crankshaft seal) had blown and that I had lost oil while driving. Although the description from the bulletin matched my situation perfectly, gm claimed that my VIN did not line up. As you can understand, this could have been a much more serious situation if it had happened minutes earlier while I was traveling on a 75mph interstate, or if my wife and one year old were in the vehicle. Gm has documented that they know about this issue, but in an effort to reduce their exposure, they are limiting it to a very small number of VIN numbers. Two other customers with the same model car were also at the service center that very day. As a health and safety manager in manufacturing myself, I am surprised that gm has not stepped up and corrected this issue when it is presenting a potential serious hazard to the general public. First, in Feb. 13, 2019 my 2013 Equinox the pcv froze causing my rear main seal to blow. There was a service bulletin for this problem. Unfortunately, my VIN # was not one covered. This cost me $ 1,714. 00. I was fortunate enough that someone noticed the big oil trail my car left on my street. If I would not have checked it, I would had tried to drive to work and probably would have blown my engine. So many others had this happen while driving. Never had an oil problem until after this. Started noticing lately that I was having to add oil once or twice between oil changes. Took it to a gm dealership to have it looked at. I ended up having to replace pistons, chains, and solenoids. I had them fix anything that needed done. So, there were a few other things I had fixed that did not have to do with the oil consumption. It was another $ 4,100. 00. My vehicle only had 78,500 miles at the time. However, there was a class action settlement, my vehicle was past gm's expiration 7 years and 6 months or 120,000 miles which ever comes first. Gm knows they were at fault but has a time limit on fixing it. So, people like me that have low mileage for a 2013, I had to pay for it. Now, I am still making payments on the vehicle and have to pay a loan to have it fixed. I am, a single mom of an 11-year-old with autism. Already struggling during the pandemic. I just want to say how disappointed I am in gm, for not taking care of their once loyal customers. I was in a mcdonalds drive thru when I noticed a strong petroleum smell. I pulled into a parking space and found oil gushing from the engine. I turned the engine off and had it towed to my local chevy dealer. The dealer found that the pcv system had clogged and caused the crankcase to pressurize, thereby blowing the real main seal. Fortunately I was not on the highway at the time or I could have lost all the oil and suffered an engine seizure at highway speeds. I got no indication of a problem other than smell and visual examination. The repairs were quoted at $2320. After complaining to gm customer service they provided cost assistance which reduced the price to $954 plus tax. On further research I found that there is a recall on the 2010-2014 chevy Equinox for this same problem and the warranty was extended to 10 years or 120,000 miles. The 2015-2017 chevy Equinox has the same 2. 4 liter ecotec engine but gm has not seen fit to extend the recall to those years. At the time of the incident I had 83,773 miles on the vehicle and always had it serviced at the dealer I bought it from, sarchione Chevrolet in randolph, ohio. Further contact with gm got them to pay another $400 (which I have not received yet) but they refused to pay the entire amount. This is a dangerous problem that gm is aware of but not acknowledging by extending the recall for the additional 3 years that this engine was available in the Equinox. Living in texas we normally don't have very cold temperatures but this winter we had single digit temperatures and negative wind-chill for several days. My family had no running water or electricity and tried to drive up the road for food (roughly 1/8th a mile) and noticed a trail of oil when we got out. My husband has worked on vehicles his whole life and after some investigating and research determined the pcv valve had frozen which caused the rear main seal to blow. After taking it to a gm dealer we discovered how common the problem was, there was even another Equinox with the same diagnosis (we live in a very rural area so for someone else to have the same issue at the same time says a lot). It was not a cheap fix coming in at $1400. This was not a maintenance issue but a failure on gm"s part with their faulty design and execution of the motor. There are hundreds of other stories I have been able to find with the exact same issue, sometimes causing even more damage than we had. There needs to be a recall or compensation given to those who have found themselves in a real bind from this happening. We are in the process of filing a claim through insurance, so hopefully they can help, but I cannot speak on that yet. My husband was driving my Equinox downtown st louis, 3 hours away from home and came to a stop light. Car wasn't running right. Shaking and rattling. He got pulled into a parking garage where later it had to be towed. The next day, the body shop told us the pcv valve was clogged or frozed and probably blew the seals. We had to have our car towed 3 hours back to home. There was no warning, no warning lights came on beforehand. I have completed all maintenance on this vehicle and have had no trouble. I have done research on this and this should definitely be a recall. There are thousands of complaints. And in this case left my family straneded 3 hours from home!. I live in a state that has cold weather, dipping well below freezing. I went to get an oil change when my car prompted me, and much to my surprise the mechanics found a severe oil leak. I was told not to drive the vehicle any longer and to have it towed immediately to a repair shop. I had it towed to the dealership I bought it from, and their mechanic just called me. According to him, the pcv had moisture in it that froze, causing air pressure build up that burst and damage a major oil valve. He stated that the pcv hole isn't big enough to avoid these issues, and that once they repair it, they will drill the hole to make it bigger so it doesn't happen again. My concern is, if these vehicles are sold nationwide, and are so popular, why are they not thinking of these possible issues? owners should not have to pay over $2100 for a repair due to an issue in manufacturing!. Ice formed in the pcv breather tube, blocking the pcv system, causing pressure buildup and oil to explode out of the oil dipstick tube. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership. This issue is specifically addressed in gm's TSB 14882, covering this vehicle. I was told the VIN was not covered, even though this is a 2011 Equinox with a 2. 4l engine and they seem to have a widespread problem with pcv systems freezing up and causing a wide range of problems. I would like to be reimbursed for my tow and repair costs. See all problems of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox . On February 9th 2021 at 5:00pm when it was 6 degrees with snow covered road outside, I was driving to a appointment about 10 miles away when my car started to act up. No warning lights or bells when off. I pulled into a quick trip and put some heat in thinking to was a gas line freeze up. I went a short 1. 5 miles to my appt and my car died. I was able to pull of to the side of the road and notice a lot of oil coming from my car. Again still no warning lights or bells went off. I towed it to hendrick Chevrolet where all the oil changes and all previous work have been done. The problem is a rear main seal that is blown due to the pcv value getting clogged with water and freezing causing high crack case pressure, blowing the rear seal. Gm has a service bulletin 14882 which covers this condition if the car is under 120000 miles/10 years from in service date. My car has 110501miles and the end service date 6/2012 and should be covered. However gm says my VIN # isn't part up the 14882 bulletin. My repair cost is $3200. 00 it seems the cars that are manufactured in mexico are part of this bulletin but the cars manufactured in canada are not. There are a lot of people out there facing and complaining about this. There is a lot of complaints on your website. This condition only will occurs during below freezing conditions potentially making it a very dangerous condition. In my case if I was driving on I-435 instead of holmes road my life would have been put in danger. This should be a very easy fix for gm it make to in sure the safety of drivers during freezing conditions and to prevent the very expensive cost for the consumer to bare. In my case I'm picking up my car, stowing it and finding a lawyer. See all problems of the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox . The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that upon inspection an oil leak was discovered under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to jeff wyler Chevrolet located at 2237 w. 1st st, springfield, OH 45504, who diagnosed that the engine pcv and rear main seal was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000. I was out running errands and I noticed the engine was idling rough and it even stalled twice while I was at stop lights. No indication of anything wrong based on the lights (no check engine light, oil light, etc was lit) but after I got home I noticed an oil leak underneath the engine on my driveway. Got to a local mechanic and they recommended a new engine due to the pcv valve freezing (I live in northern us and it's winter) which caused the rear main oil seal to fail and a massive oil leak. Because of that, I was likely driving with low oil pressure, something that the car should have had a system to tell me but didn't. And I've only got 89,000 miles on it! engines shouldn't be failing that quickly. The vehicle' pcv valve failed, causing high crankcase pressure, causing the rear main seal to fail. All of the engine oil left the engine in a short period of time. And no engine light or service message came up. Vehicle was in motion at about 35 mph. The vehicle only had 72,000 miles. First problem since I bought car June of 2020 was the stalling issue. I changed exhaust and camshaft selenoids still idled rough but didnt stall. . The car would start ticking every other week from the excessive oil this vehicle consumed . Luckily I knew what the tick meant because no low oil light ever came on. Then I got the notice for the oxygen sensor recall and hoped itd take care of oil problem . When I took it to the gm dealer it started ticking on way there so I figured I'd let them add oil this time since I spend as much as I do already on oil. Get back into my car . The car still idled roughbk ang didnt seem like they touched it other than adding air to tire . When I left dealers car still ticking oil not even on dipstick I went to walmart immediately and added oil. Then not even a monthlater I got sick and the car sat outside 3 days I had to go get corona test and on my way home on a county rd low oil pressure light came on on said shut off engine immediately. I did my dad came brought oil followed me to mechanic they said rear main seal blew, oil was gushing out. Low oil light has never came on. The tube running into intake. Bulletin. 14882 is exactly what happened the intake tube got plugged and froze from condensation water is known to sit in tube and freeze. When I took my car in for recall on 02 sensor tha dealer should have checked out any other problems this recall could cause knowing the history of oil consumption on these vehicles should have discussed the problem with pcv and added a vent of some sort so main seal didnt blow and this could have prevented what happen 1month after being there for recall this car also will allow u to take key out when not in park and a few times would try restarting on it's own after I shut it off. Running this car low on oil im sure has had many underlying bad effects on my engine. But warning light never came on. Vehicle has 111,000 miles on it and consumes 3 quarts of oil between 5,000 mile oil change intervals. We have always had the oil changed when it is due. Another issue is that when I take the oil fill cap off, there is a white milky residue (which indicates that there is moisture in the engine) now, I know that these 2. 4 liter ecotech engines are notorious for pcv issues. Besides the pc issue, the other issue that worries me is that the piston/rings could also be burnt up. The vehicle started stalling out as of last week, then flashed a check engine light. The dtc codes were p011 and p010 which are signals for bad intake and exhaust cam actuator solenoid's or (vvs t variable vehicle timing), my guess is that the oil is so contaminated that it plugged the oil screens on bother actuators causing them to send false signals to the ecm on timing adjustment to throttle ratio. I am not in the market nor can I afford to sell, trade-off, or pay a mechanic thousands of dollars to have this repaired. My question is, will this be covered by gm? or am I stuck with a car and a payment that sits in my driveway and collects dust?. Rear main seal busted open due to freezing pcv. This year of vehicle is not included in the tbs recall. The cause of the problem, my eingine code, and the repair/the fix, and type of problem is exactly the same as described in tbs 14882. My vehicle should be included in this recall, but it is not. The vehicle has a massive oil leak from the rear main seal caused by a plugged pcv system. Service bulletin 14882 explains the reason for the problem and the vehicle was diagnosed by the dealership as having this problem. Gm is stating that the VIN does not apply to this service bulletin. Even though it has the same problem, same engine, same year make and model as stated in the service bulletin. 2. 4l 4cyl. Motor ran out of oil, no oil on dip stick. No low oil light or pressure notification and under recommended mileage for oil change. Pcv tube to air intake filled with milky oil. Reflects issue for 2010-2013 models. The issue was found after stalling at stop light on busy state road. Same problem as bulletin 14882 driving on the freeway no warning light engine started rattling car smoke lost power car died oil everywhere pcv valve froze due to excession engine oil burning and blew the engine $2300 dollars later supposedly fixed my car has not been rt since filed complaint with chevy I was told my VIN not not part of the service bulletin I have read the same isssue over and over I car is back in the shop today 3. 24. 21 still having issues will never buy chevy again. We live in mn and went out to start our 2. 4 Equinox and it started and then died. This was sitting in our driveway and was in park when it happened. We had it towed to a shop and was told that it there was a pcv freeze up which caused the main seal to blow loosing the oil. This caused the timing chain to fail. We reached out to gm and they stated this is out of warrantee and that 2017 where not effected even thou it is the same motor as the others that are affected. We reached out to the dealership and they said the same thing that because the car has 80,000 miles we are out of the powertrain warrantee. Pcv valve failed; allowed pressure build up in crank case which then blew the rear main seal. $1,600 bill for this. A look online shows this happens repeatedly on this vehicle, but no recall issued by manufacturer and no compensation for the repairs. Wiper linkage has failed and pcv valve froze and caused rear main seal failure. Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the contact noticed a trail of oil in her rearview mirror and in the driveway of her resident. No warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to shakopee Chevrolet inc where it was diagnosed and determined that the pcv manifold failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle at this time is begin repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included. The contact mentioned 14882 (pcv orifice in intake manifold) as a possible solution to the failure however the VIN was not included in the voluntary TSB. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000. Ck. The engine experiences excessive oil consumption due to faulty piston rings, the pcv system sucking oil into the intake, and the oil spray jets forcing more oil past the faulty piston rings. My vehicle is leaking oil, oil all over the top of the engine and large oil spots below. . I have been unable to drive my car for fear we will blow the rear main oil seal. The issue is thought to be the pcv valve. I looked up my complaint that I was having on the internet and came across similar complaints from numerous (a heck of a lot) of people and found gm bulletin number 14882 that specifies the same complaint that I had. I brought this up to the manufacturing company and they explain to me that this bulletin is VIN specific and it would not be covered. Can not understand why not when it's the same engine, year. . Etc. All the other people (who I have read complaints online about it) who have the same issue are being told the same thing. . . . VIN not covered. If all these vehicles are having the same issue why are they saying not covered? I guess I will have to do what the others did and file a complaint with the bbb. I can not upload a photo, my vehicle still sits at the gm repair shop. Pcv unit blew up and blew oil out the back of my engine. It's a common problem with many and gm wont fix the problem. Even the extra new car insurance plan we bought wont cover it. This car is only 5yrs old.
