Course Description: The high school standards specify the mathematics that all students should study in order to be college and career ready. Additional mathematics that students should learn in fourth credit courses or advanced courses such as calculus, advanced statistics, or discrete mathematics is indicated by (+). All standards without a (+) symbol should be in the common mathematics curriculum for all college and
career ready students. Standards with a (+) symbol may also appear in courses intended for all students.
The high school standards are listed in conceptual categories including Number and Quantity, Algebra,
Functions, Modeling, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.
Conceptual categories portray a coherent view of high school mathematics; a student’s work with
functions, for example, crosses a number of traditional course boundaries, potentially up through and
including calculus. Modeling is best interpreted not as a collection of isolated topics but in relation to
other standards. Making mathematical models is a Standard for Mathematical Practice, and specific
modeling standards appear throughout the high school standards indicated by a star symbol (*).
Strikethroughs in the standards are to highlight the portions that are not relevant to this course.

GRADING SYSTEM: The DeKalb County School District believes that the most important assessment of student learning shall be conducted by the teachers as they observe and evaluate students in the context of ongoing classroom instruction. A variety of approaches, methodologies, and resources shall be used to deliver educational services and to maximize each student’s opportunity to succeed. Teachers shall evaluate student progress, report grades that represent the student’s academic achievement, and communicate official academic progress to students and parents in a timely manner through the electronic grading portal. See Board Policy IHA.
|GRADING CATEGORIES |*GRADE PROTOCOL |
|Formative Assessment - 0% |A 90 – 100 ~P (pass) |

|DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS |
|STUDENT PROGRESS |Semester progress reports shall be issued four and a half, nine and thirteen and a half weeks into each |

| |the students. See Board Policy IH. |
|ACADEMIC INTEGRITY |Students will not engage in an act of academic dishonesty including, but not limited to, cheating, providing |
| |false information, falsifying school records, forging signatures, or using an unauthorized computer user ID or |

| |Handbook. |
|HOMEWORK |Homework assignments should be meaningful and should be an application or adaptation of a classroom experience. |
| |Homework is at all times an extension of the teaching/learning experience. It should be considered the |
| |possession of the student and should be collected, evaluated and returned to the students. See Board Policy IHB.|
|MAKE-UP WORK |When a student is absent because of a legal reason as defined by Georgia law or when the absence is apparently |
|DUE TO ABSENCES |beyond the control of the student, the student shall be given an opportunity to earn grade(s) for those days |

| |set up a time either before school, after school, or during tutorial. |
|PARENTS AS PARTNERS |Family involvement is an essential element for a student’s success in mathematics. Be positive and support |
| |homework, don’t do it for them. Think of yourself as a guide rather than your child’s teacher. You can help by |
| |asking questions and listening. You may also help by visiting the online resources and encouraging your child to|
| |take advantage of the tutorials, interactive activities, and other online resources listed above. For those |
| |without home web access, check with your child’s classroom teacher or the middle school library. |
