College Entrance Exams

Seniors going to a Four-year university who have not taken the SAT or the ACT should do so now.

Note the following dates and be mindful of deadlines. When registering to take the test you can select up to 4 colleges and universities to receive your test scores for FREE! Score reports that are requested after testing will be at a COST!!! If you receive free or reduced lunch, please see your counselor for information about fee waivers.

Transcripts

All colleges and most scholarships require transcripts. To order transcripts, seniors must complete a transcript request form with the records clerk in Guidance. Transcripts must be ordered at least ONE week in advance. You are responsible for picking up the transcripts and mailing them to the desired colleges or scholarship committees. Please keep in mind that once transcripts are sent by Guidance it will take up to two to three weeks for your school receive it, then it is on the institution you have sent it to open or retrieve (if electronic) your transcript.

Recommendations

Some colleges and scholarships may require a letter of recommendation. You MUST ask teachers and/or your guidance counselor at least two weeks in advance. You should submit a resume or get a form from your counselor to fill out before they will write a recommendation. Visit the DPHS guidance website to access the student profile form.

College Visits/application Preperation

Please visit the DPHS guidance website to gain information on what institutions will be coming to the school. In order to meet with the representatives from the visiting college or university you must sign up online. Ms. Nicole Gurley, our College Transition Counselor, will be available in our College and Career Room every Tuesday. Please email her at nicole.gurley@ for an appointment if you need assistance.

|Students must APPLY for the scholarship by submitting the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) beginning October 1 of their senior year and by no later than|

|August 31 after high school graduation. If a student does not apply for the scholarship by the deadline, a student cannot receive the scholarship! All |

|eligibility requirements must be met by high school graduation but scores of ACT/SAT/P.E.R.T. tests taken through June 30 are accepted for evaluation purposes. |

Financial Aid

ALL seniors who plan to attend a post-secondary school must apply for the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FREE application for 2017-2018 can be accessed online October 1, 2017. Learn more by visiting their website: fafsa.
