At the completion of this program, participants will be able to:

❖ Explain the principles of initiating statin therapy for patients with hyperlipidemia according to ACC/AHA guidelines

❖ Name 3 side effects of statin therapy and proper management considerations of these side-effects

❖ Discuss the latest non-statin pharmacotherapy treatment options for patients with hyperlipidemia

❖ Determine the role of bile acid sequestrants for management of patients with hyperlipidemia

❖ Describe the role of PCSK9 inhibitors in the treatment of hyperlipidemia

❖ Define SIRS/ Sepsis/ Severe Sepsis/ Septic Shock

❖ Recognize early signs of sepsis

❖ Implement early goal directed pharmacologic therapy to treat sepsis

❖ Identify different types of contraception and assess for efficacy

❖ Explain the mechanism of action for different forms of contraception

❖ Identify medical conditions that dictate contraception choices

❖ Identify side effects and safety concerns of contraception

❖ Educate and recommend contraceptive devices

❖ Explain the mechanism of action of biologics

❖ Identify proper administration of biologics

❖ Identify potential side effects of specific biologics

❖ Discuss the possible etiologies of atrial fibrillation

❖ Verbalize pharmacologic treatments for atrial fibrillation

❖ Discuss the use of anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation for stroke prevention

❖ Discuss the non-pharmacologic treatment of atrial fibrillation

❖ Delineate diagnostic criteria for sinusitis that requires antibiotic treatment

❖ Distinguish between patients with otitis media that require immediate antibiotics versus those which can use the “Watch and Wait” guideline

❖ Describe the treatment algorithm for false negative rapid strep cultures

❖ Identify criteria for strep carrier status and proper treatment plan to eradicate the organism
