-38100-14033500Sam Houston State University2019 Common ReaderUndergraduate Research Proposal Poster ContestPurposeThis research proposal poster competition encourages incoming freshmen who investigate and design a research proposal based on themes of the 2019-2020 SHSU Common Reader, Educated: A Memoir, by Tara Westover. Proposals must be submitted in a specific research poster PPT template provided. The goal of a research proposal is to present and justify the need to study a research problem and to present the practical ways in which the proposed study should be conducted. This research proposal must contain (1) a research title, (2) an abstract, (3) an introduction, (4) a research question, (5) a brief literature review, (6) your proposed method (interviews, data from other sources) for conducting the research, (7) a reference section – minimum 5 journal article sources, and (8) at least one figure or table. In selecting sources/ journal articles, the goal is to provide evidence that a need exists for the proposed mon Reader Undergraduate Research PromptThis book presents topics from many disciplines and students are encouraged to develop a research (minimum 5 journal articles) proposal that interests them and aligns with a topic in the book. Please develop a research proposal in which you analyze one of the topics suggested in the SHSU Common Reader Curriculum Guide, or develop your own SHSU Common Reader topic in collaboration with your faculty advisor. EligibilityThe contest is open to all first-time freshmen who enroll full-time (minimum 12 hours) at Sam Houston State University in the fall 2019 semester. PrizeA scholarship sponsored by the Honors College valued at $500 will be awarded to the first-year freshman student submitting the winning poster entry. ApplicationElectronic submissions of the research poster are required and must be submitted to honors@shsu.edu. Submissions should be prepared and sent in the required PPT Poster template. See website for template download.Rules of the ContestAll applicants must be students enrolled at Sam Houston State University full-time (minimum 12 hours) during the fall 2019 academic term.All research proposals will be submitted on the approved PPT Poster template to honors@shsu.edu by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
