SEASON PREMIERE WITH CARO PIEROTTO

OCTOBER 17 ? 6PM

Caro Pierotto will be here to help celebrate the GVR Live! 2019/2020 Arts & Entertainment Season Premiere with an exciting performance filled with sensual, playful, and unforgettable music! All patrons are invited to this festive event with dancing, complimentary beverages, and chips & salsa.

Ten years ago, Caro Pierotto took a big chance. She put everything on the line in what turned out to be one of those fairytale stories that Hollywood dreams are made of. It all began when she ditched a steady corporate paycheck, left behind family and friends, and traded her native Brazil for Los Angeles. Caro had it in her heart to write her own songs, sing, and perform. She put together a band, called it Marbella, and with the help of Latin Grammy Award-winning engineer and producer Alberto Lopez, released Volta ao Mundo.

Her first song collection of fiery sounds had audiences hungry for Caro's world music in faraway places like Indonesia, France, and her new home, America. That first effort landed in rotation on KCRW radio and was shortlisted for Grammy balloting. Why? Because Caro's singing is a prayer that goes straight to the heart.

EVERLY BROTHERS [REVISITED] WITH LEE LESSACK & JOHNNY RODGERS

OCTOBER 24 ? 7PM

Award-winning recording artists Lee Lessack & Johnny Rodgers will revisit the iconic 1983 "Live at Royal Albert Hall" Everly Brothers Reunion Concert. Lessack and Rodgers will perform all the masterpieces heard that night, including "All I Have to Do Is Dream," "Devoted to You," "Bye Bye Love," and many more. After a decade of not speaking to each other, British guitarist Albert Lee was able to bring the Everly Brothers back together in 1983 for what he thought would be a one-off concert at London's Royal Albert Hall. That reunion lasted 26 years, which was an unexpected, but pleasing, bonus.

Lee Lessack's graceful lyric baritone vocals and sophisticated and engaging persona have made him a shining star on the international concert scene. Billboard Magazine calls his singing "vocal romanticism of a high order."

Johnny Rodgers is an internationally celebrated singer-songwriter, pianist, Broadway veteran, and recording artist who is described by Stephen Holden of New York Times, as an entertainer "who has show business in his bones" with "fused elements of Billy Joel, Peter Allen, and Johnny Mercer."

TONY JACKSON

NOVEMBER 14 ? 7PM

Is it premature to see Hall of Fame material in a guy who's just releasing his first album? Not if that guy is Tony Jackson. To put it plainly, Jackson is the most talked about singer in Nashville today, and one of the most gifted singers ever to grace country music.

Rolling Stone magazine cited Tony Jackson's latest single, "Country Road," naming it among the `10 Best Country and Americana Songs to Hear Now' stating--"fiddle, harmonica, pedal steel guitar fill this less-known James Taylor salute to the rolling ribbons of backwoods blacktop, but it's Tony Jackson's voice, which could easily pass for Taylor's classic croon, that packs the biggest punch."

Since his highly praised May 2017 debut album release, Tony Jackson, the affable singer has already been invited to perform on the Grand Ole Opry (multiple times), a CMA Fest, and has appeared on several important national TV shows.

STEEL BETTY

NOVEMBER 19 ? 7PM

Steel Betty lives at the crossroads of what makes Austin, Texas the engine driving traditional music in America. Flavors of bluegrass, folk, blues, Tex-Mex, Old Time music, and classic country, are a reflection of today's American music scene. Steel Betty, the hip, virtuosic trio, embraces Austin's eclectic culture and brings this lively music out of Texas for the rest of the country to experience. David McD (guitar, vocals), Maddy Froncek (banjo, upright bass, vocals), and Micah Motenko (mandolin, piano, vocals) are multi-instrumentalists capturing the sounds and harmonies of Austin like no other ensemble. Music of Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, spirituals, the vaquero tradition, and more, highlight Steel Betty's performances. The trio often conducts workshops for aspiring musicians and students and has a wonderful, interactive program for schools introducing children to the great variety and depth of music from their part of America. Steel Betty's debut recording was released in summer 2018.

SONS OF THE PIONEERS

DECEMBER 5 ? 7PM

Who are the Sons of the Pioneers and how can they call themselves "legends of Western music"? The short answer is that the Sons of the Pioneers singularly built a new genre and library of music that is an American original - one that has become synonymous with the American West and continues to enthrall generations of listeners worldwide.

Since the early days of the film industry, the cowboy has been a favorite movie subject. When musical segments were added to broaden a movie's interest, the "singing cowboy" was born and it created megastardom for people like Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter, and Rex Allen. Enter the Sons of the Pioneers in 1934. They have accumulated more honors and awards than any other group or performer in Western music, including coveted awards from the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music, just to name a couple. Today the Sons of the Pioneers are still mesmerizing long-time fans and creating new ones. They continue to play to sell-out crowds and standing ovations.

FEATURING MEI-ANN CHEN, CONDUCTOR

DAVID MORGAN, TUBA

Coleridge-Taylor: African Suite: Danse N?gre Vaughan Williams: The Wasps Overture Vaughan Williams: Concerto for Tuba Elgar: Enigma Variations

? Coleridge-Taylor, son of a Sierra Leone Creole physician and English woman, achieved such success when touring the U.S. in the early 1900s that he was likened to Mahler.

? The hugely popular The Wasps Overture is a brilliant marrying of Ravel's French influence with broad, thoroughly English humor.

? "The V.W. concerto is the gold standard for the tuba. The concerto is robust with fantastic melodies and gives the audience a chance to really hear what the tuba can do, both technically and musically." - David Morgan, TSO Principal Tuba

? A work of both seriousness and humor, Elgar dedicated the variations "to my friends pictured within," each variation a musical sketch of one of his close acquaintances.

Doors open at 6:00pm. Preshow lecture begins at 6:30pm. Performance begins at 7:30pm.
