LWSD - Calendar changes due to missed snow days

The district has finalized plans to make up for the days and time missed due to the February snow events. The 2018-19 calendar has been modified to reflect the changes. As a reminder, school districts can request a waiver from the state for missed school days during the Governor's declared state of emergency. Districts are not allowed to seek a waiver that would impact the required K-12 average instructional hours of 1,027. After analysis of both requirements, it was determined that a total of 3.5 days must be made up to maintain compliance with both requirements. The 2018-19 calendar has May 28 built-in as a snow day, so a total of 2.5 days must be made up beyond the built-in snow day.

The following modifications will be made to the 2018-19 calendar:

1. Wednesday, May 1: change from an early release to a full day for students 2. Wednesday, May 8: change from an early release to a full day for students 3. Friday, May 24: change from a non-school day to a school day for students 4. Tuesday, May 28: change from a non-school day to a school day for students 5. Wednesday, June 19: change from a half day to a full day for students 6. Thursday, June 20: added as a half day for students (last day of school)

World Down Syndrome Day - 21 March "Rock your socks" at MOD pizza

Thursday, March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day. A day to celebrate and spread awareness about Down syndrome. (The date 3.21 = 3 copies of the 21st chromosomes that results in Down syndrome.

In honor of Hunter Clark, we are asking friends to wear your most colorful spunky socks and come to

MOD Pizza in celebration of people with Down syndrome. 20% of ALL sales will go to the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network (DSDN) . DSDN is our favorite charity, supporting new families and making real changes in the Down Syndrome community.

Rock your socks, promotes the idea we're not so different. Mismatched or not, it doesn't matter what the socks look like, they are both socks. Sure, there are some differces but ultimately they are the same, just like people with and without Down syndrome.

So come eat with pizza with us and support Hunter and Down syndrome!

Please SHARE and tell your friends, schools, family, neighbors and sport teams, help me pack the place for World Down Syndrome Day AND ROCK YOUR SOCKS!

In order for this to happen....we need 2 volunteers each Friday morning for about 2 hrs. If you cannot volunteer regularly at school, but you have 2 hrs to spare, please help us by signing up for a day that suits you. Every little bit helps our school! Popcorn Friday Sign Up

This week the spotlight falls on.....Makiko Ikeda

Hello. My name is Makiko Ikeda (ee-kay-da). My children are Akiko (4th Luce), Kenji (1st Luck) and Yumiko (K Heimbigner) Gietzel (geet-zel). I am your committee chair for Spirit Wear. I also volunteer for the art program, library and am the coordinator for the Box Tops program. This year I am the room parent for my son Kenji's class, which has been very fun. My husband Darrin and I moved to Sammamish from West Seattle in September 2012 and have been in the Seattle area since 2004. Darrin is from Australia and I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, but we have both been on the west coast (NV, CA, WA) since the mid 90's. Three years ago we moved my parents to Sammamish from Las Vegas and I am the sandwich generation in my family. I enjoy managing my home and family and as we will be a Carson Family for a decade, I try to stay involved and help my kids' teachers (who have all been wonderful!). I enjoy meeting new people and hope to make new connections each year.

Not everyone has the opportunity to see the artwork on display in the lobby, so from time to time we will share that with all of our PTSA members.
