STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Appropriations Language

For carrying out [subparts 1 , 3, and 10] subpart 1 of part A, and part C of title IV of the HEA, [$24,520,352,000] $22,975,352,000, which shall remain available through September 30, [2021] 2022:1

The maximum Pell Grant for which a student shall be eligible during award year [2020-2021] 2021-2022 shall be $5,2852.

GENERAL PROVISIONS [(RESCISSION)]

[SEC. 308. Of the unobligated balances available under the heading "Student Financial Assistance" for carrying out subpart 1 of part A of title IV of the HEA, $500,000,000 are hereby rescinded.]3 (Department of Education Appropriations Act, 2020.)

Explanation

1For carrying out [subparts 1, 3, and 10] subpart 1 of part A of title IV of the HEA, [$24,520,352,000] $22,975,352,000 which shall remain available through September 30, [2021] 2022.

This language sets the availability of funds provided under the account through the end of fiscal year 2022.

2The maximum Pell Grant for which a student shall be eligible during award year [20202021] 2021-2022 shall be $5,285.

This language sets the maximum Pell Grant award for award year 2021-22. Including mandatory funding provided in the Higher Education Act, the Pell Grant maximum award in award year 2021-22 will be $6,345, the same as the previous award year.

The 2020 Appropriation rescinded $500,000,000 of unobligated funds from the Pell Grant program. The 2021 Request does not include a rescission.
