When I first ran, I made a commitment to you to be a champion for education, work toward a stable and vibrant Alaskan economy, and advocate for sustainable use of our resources. We have made substantial progress toward those goals. On the Education and HSS Committees, I fought for expansion of Pre-K and Medicaid to ensure access to our schools and our healthcare system for all Alaskans. We nearly passed the Alaska Reads Act this year, which would have expanded Pre-K to all Alaskans. We can complete that work in the coming years. I worked across the aisle and with the House to defend a bipartisan budget that limited devastating budget cuts. Together my colleagues and I championed measures that I believe will lead us to a stable and sustainable budget - including a $5 billion transfer into the principle of the Permanent Fund - guaranteeing that our wealth today will support our state for years to come. I believe that after the pandemic we will find ourselves moving toward a sustainable future - where we are less dependent on oil, receive our fair share of resource revenue, we all contribute to our state, and together, we build a sustainable future for all Alaskans.
