Aurora Central Catholic High School

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Supporters of Our Students,Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! It will be easy this year to focus on what is new and what has changed, but so much of what makes high school good remains the same! There are still dedicated teachers, like myself, that want to see your student succeed. There are still friendships to be made and there will still be fun to be had. To get the most out of this year, we will need to be compassionate and support one another. In Comp Lit we will be learning how to use our computers to communicate, inform, and entertain. The main focus will be on the Microsoft 365. We will learn how to use applications that the students will need in their other classes. Some students will already have these skills so I am working on ways to make each unit with an element that will be new for all students. There will inevitably be things that I gloss over. If there is ever something that your student does not understand they need only to communicate that to me. Communication is key.The best way for a student to reach me is via the Microsoft Team. After that, email is the best way to reach me. I pledge to respond to all emails received by 3:30pm the same day. Any email received after 3:30 might be answered the next day.Sincerely,Ms. RogersClassroom Expectations and RulesBe respectful. If we can do this, then all the other rules will just happen naturally,Jesus commanded us to care for one another so that is what we must do.Do not touch another person’s computer without permission. The ideal would be never to touch another person’s computer. If there is an issue, you need to alert the teacher first.Stay within your own personal space.Be on time.I need to be able to close the classroom door, so it is important that students are in the room on time.Time is the most expensive gift that we can give one another. Arriving on time and staying as focused as possible is the best way to honor the gift of time.Cell phones are restricted. We have laptops; those are what we should be using in class. Cellphones are only to be used as backup if there is a computer issue.Cellphones are necessary sometimes. During this tense time, it can be tempting to turn to your phone for distraction and comfort. I understand. I also ask that if at all possible, you avoid this behavior as it will allow you to better focus on your work. Social media especially should not be used during the school day.DeadlinesAt the end of each unit there will be a project. This project will have a hard deadline. There will be smaller assignments leading up to the terminal project. For the smaller assignments there is a degree of flexibility. If you need an extension, let me know and we can work it out. Meeting a deadline is a sign of respect. If there is a time when a deadline will not be met, I expect some kind of communication as to why. Flexibility is key for all of us!Mask RulesEvery school day needs a clean mask.Masks must cover mouth and nose.If a mask must be adjusted or touched for any reason, hand sanitizer should be used before touching any common surface.I have a box of disposable masks in the room should your mask need to be changed for some reason.School Rules All school rules apply at all times.Rules help us show respect to one another. The reason a rule exists is because at some point someone needed a reminder. Even if you do not need a reminder, you still must follow the rule. ................
