INFORMATION ABOUT THE ATI TEAS EXAM

The Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) is the company that produces the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), a scholastic aptitude assessment that is widely used as part of the admission process for baccalaureate and associate degree nursing programs. Those interested in applying to Cal State LA's ABSN program must take the ATI TEAS as part of the application process (refer to our ABSN application procedure as to when this test can be taken). We do not accept the GRE as a replacement test.

Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are allowing our ABSN summer 2021 program applicants to take this test remotely (online). Our campus testing center is offering the ATI TEAS remotely, and you can register for it by going onto the following link:

Test dates are on Thursdays and scheduled approximately one month in advance. There will be two to three anticipated test dates per month, for the remainder of 2020. The cost is $115.00.

Applicants may take the ATI TEAS at a different location, such as at another college, or at a PSI testing center. You may also contact ATI at or (800)667-7531 for more information. Their office hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am – 7:00pm (Central Standard Time).

There are four sections on the examination:

The Reading covers paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions.

The Math subtest covers whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions and decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion.

The Science portion of the exam covers science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic physical principles, and general science.

The English and Language Usage subtest measures knowledge of punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling.

Although higher scores will increase your competitiveness in the application review process, to be considered an eligible applicant for the ABSN program at Cal State LA, the minimum acceptable score (national percentile rank) is the 80th percentile in all four sections listed above.

Once the exam has been taken, a copy of your results should be available within 3 -5 business days. The Individual Performance Profile (with bar graphs) is the results page that is to be submitted as one of the required ABSN application documents.
