TUESDAY TEAM TALK

PAUL HILTZ UPDATE

Hello Team, I am proud to share some exciting news this week. NCH Healthcare System is once again the recipient of the Healthgrades 2021 Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence AwardTM, placing us in the top 5% of hospitals evaluated for overall women's care. This achievement recognizes NCH for providing exceptional care to women during and after childbirth and to women undergoing gynecologic procedures. Additionally, NCH is also a recipient of the Healthgrades 2021 Labor and Delivery Excellence AwardTM. This distinction places NCH in the top 5% of all hospitals evaluated and recognizes the exceptional care provided to mothers during and after labor and delivery. Quality care delivered with an exceptional patient experience is always a top priority at NCH and I couldn't be more proud of the staff at the NCH BirthPlace for their dedication to the women of our community and for making this recognition possible. Congratulations to the staff of the Women's and Children's services for earning this distinction. Thank you for providing exceptional patient care to every patient each and every time.

Good News About the Double Overtime Bonus

For those NCH staff members who are fully vaccinated, the double overtime bonus starts earlier than originally communicated. The double overtime bonus will start with the pay period beginning August 29 instead of September 12 and will be in the September 17 paycheck ? one pay period sooner than we had announced ? as a way to thank our staff for protecting our patients and each other by getting the COVID vaccine. You can look on your paystub under "vaccine overtime Incentive" to see the bonus you earned, and review the chart below to see what date you plan to be fully vaccinated to determine when the bonus will appear in your paycheck.

QUALITY

Patient Experience at NCH: Back to the Basic's Part One

Last month, we introduced our "Patient Experience Bootcamp." This program is broken into four different parts geared towards going back to the basics, then building on those principles. It is grounded on the "human experience." This month, we are going to focus on the first section of this program, "What Not to Say." This section is all about the power of the words we chose to use, or not use. We unintentionally may use words that can chip away at trust without realizing it; putting a distance between you and a patient, create an uneasiness, and imply a lack of action, empathy, or responsibility. As each of us know, words can be very damaging to any relationship we have or are trying to form with our patients and their families. The following are quick self-reflective questions we can ask ourselves when it comes to our choice of words:

? Are the words I am choosing to say "COMFORT" words ? words that build relationship, trust, confidence in the care I am delivering OR are they chipping away at trust?

? Am I pointing blame at someone else regardless of the situation? ? Am I making a statement that I would want to be made about me, my peers, or my department? ? Are the words I am contemplating using going to benefit the patient (or his/her family) and make him/her feel better about

the care he/she is receiving at NCH? Below are some examples of what we like to call "Never Words" or words we know chip away at trust: Now that we have defined and provided some examples of what not to say, we challenge you to think of words or comments we may be using that are damaging. If you can think of any words that are not included in the above chart that you will be removing from your vocabulary, please share them by emailing Garrett.Anderson@. We'll be creating an NCH "Never Words" list. Prizes will be awarded, and we will be recognizing submissions i n future TTT's. For more information on the boot camp, please reach out to your supervisor or Diane Denny or Garrett Anderson directly.
