24- Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure MonitoringInformation for PatientsYour doctor has requested you undergo Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM). ABPM may be done to get a more accurate measurement of your average blood pressure during the day and night or because your blood pressure readings in the doctor’s office differ from those you get at home. You will wear a portable blood pressure monitor for 24 hours.The cuff connects to a rubber tube to the monitor, which is a small box worn over the shoulder with a strap, attached to your belt, or carried in a large pocket in your clothes. Below are some Do’s and Don’ts related to wearing the blood pressure monitor:DO’sWear a shirt or blouse with loose fitting sleevesWear the blood pressure cuff on your non-dominant armWhile sleeping, place the monitor on a table next to you or under a pillowPerform usual daily activities, including work and household choresDON’T’sShower or bathe while wearing the monitorPerform heavy lifting or vigorous exercise (e.g., running, weightlifting)Avoid moving your arm while the cuff is inflating and deflatingYou may remove the blood pressure monitor yourself or the pharmacy staff can remove it for you. To remove the cuff, remove the cuff by pulling on the Velcro tab. The monitor can simply be removed from the belt or shoulder strap and placed in a bag to return.Please return the device as soon as possible after testing period is complete. ................
