NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO HEADQUARTERS AND THE JEROME L. GREENE PERFORMANCE SPACE AWARDED LEED GOLD CERTIFICATION
Focus on Energy Conservation, Materials Selection and Indoor Environmental Quality
(New York, NY - June 23, 2010) New York Public Radio, which comprises WNYC, WQXR, and The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space has been granted a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification from U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the company's headquarters at 160 Varick Street and The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, its street-level, state-of-the-art broadcast studio and performance venue, at 44 Charlton Street.
NYPR received the LEED Gold Certification for Commercial Interiors. LEED Gold Certification is the second-highest honor granted by the U.S. Green Building Council and is the nationally-accepted benchmark for the
design, construction, and operation of high- performance green buildings.
Sustainable elements of NYPR's headquarters include:
• Installed lighting power that is over 30% more efficient than
code requirements.
• A Climate Control System designed to surpass energy code
requirements by 53%.
• Composite wood and laminate products that are free of urea
formaldehyde resins.
• Drywall consisting of 95% recycled content.
• A Bike Room with Shower and Locker Room to promote alternative
commuting practices and reduce the energy intensity of standard
commuting.
• Daylight exposure has been maximized with an open office
environment.
• All paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants used contain no or
low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
• Over 50% of all wood products installed have been certified by
the Forest Stewardship Council, ensuring that wood was grown and
harvested using sustainable forestry practices.
