Department: Chemistry Referred Out Testing Notes: Collect specimen after a 10 hour fast. Morning specimen is preferred. Specimen for this test must be collected, processed, aliquoted and frozen within 30 minutes of collection. If unable to meet these requirements, patients for this test must be referred to a Health PEI hospital specimen collection centre. Pre-chill specimen for 10 minutes in ice water; Centrifuge; Separate plasma from red cells within 30 minutes; Aliquot plasma to a transport aliquot tube; Indicate date and time of specimen collection Dexamethasone Suppression Test and ACTH Stimulation Test may sometimes also request ACTH levels. For both these tests the only hormone that needs to be measured in the timed collections is Cortisol unless prior approval is obtainedfrom the Chemistry Clinical Lead.
