KSHSAA COVERED HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL WEEK 2 RANKINGS

After two preseason No. 1s went down to defeat in the opening week of the 2021 season ? Class 5A Wichita Northwest and Class 4A Bishop Miege ? Week 2 saw the top-ranked teams in each division not only come out of Friday night unscathed, but with very little problems.

Class 6A No. 1 Derby got its season going after having the first week off and throttled Newton 50-17. Class 5A Mill Valley (35-17 over Olathe South), 4A McPherson (44-0 over Circle), 3A Andale (32-6 over Mulvane), 2A Rossville (56-14 over Rock Creek), 1A Olpe (53-0 over Central Heights), Eight-Player Division I Canton-Galva (54-6 over Solomon) and Eight-Player Division II Hanover (70-36 over Onaga) all joined the Panthers as comfortable winners.

But there were some shake-ups beyond the No. 1s.

In Class 4A, No. 5 Andover Central got a late touchdown to beat No. 3 Buhler 21-19 and vaulted to No. 2 with preseason No. 1 and last week's No. 2 Bishop Miege dropping its second straight game, 49-36 to Class 6A No. 4 Blue Valley Northwest. Last week's No. 4, Paola, dropped out of the rankings after getting beat 42-14 by Spring Hill.

In Class 3A, No. 3 Frontenac drops to No. 5 after losing 42-6 to Coweta (Okla.), a highly ranked team from across state lines.

In Class 2A, Beloit falls out of the rankings after a 36-6 loss to Southeast of Saline.

In Eight-Player Division I, Leoti-Wichita County and Clifton-Clyde both fell out of the rankings ? Wichita County getting routed 76-28 by WaKeeney-Trego and Clifton-Clyde falling 14-6 in a defensive battle with No. 4 Little River, which moves up to No. 3. Chase County and Argonia-Attica each climb into the rankings after improving to 2-0, Chase County topping Lebo in a tough 44-36 battle.
