Persuasive writing is very similar to opinion writing, please watch this youtube link for the book “I Wanna Iguana”. This is a book that has an example of a persuasive writing piece. The book begins with “ I know you don’t think I should have Mikey Gulligan’s baby iguana when he moves, but here’s why I should…” Throughout the entire book, the author goes to give strong reasons to support why he should have a pet iguana, and tries to persuade his mom to agree with him. Find the book here: writing a persuasive piece, you want to focus on including strong reasons that will persuade, or convince, your readers to agree with your opinion. For today’s writing assignment, use the following prompt to start your own persuasive writing piece: I know you don’t think I should have a pet ______, but here’s why I should. You will be convincing your parents to let you get a pet!Example:1st paragraph (opening)I know you don’t think I should have a pet monkey, but here’s why I should. Monkeys are cute and they would make a very good friend. Having a pet would also teach me to be responsible.2nd paragraph (Explain each of your reasons)Monkeys are the cutest animals on Earth! They smile at you, make funny facial expressions, and some can even imitate you! Even when I’m bored at home, the monkey would play with me and keep me entertained. Of course, I would also take care of it, like feed him and train him to go outside to use the bathroom. I would be so much more responsible when I have my own pet to take care of and train. 3rd paragraph (Closing)You may not think that a pet monkey is a great idea, but please give me a chance, and I’ll prove to you that’s just not the case! You’ll see just how cute and friendly monkeys really are! Pretty, please, can you just give me one chance? Please don’t forget to indent your paragraphs. Email me the finished writing, or share the google doc.10:15-10:45Art/Music/Tech/World LanguageMUSIC Hi kids,Click on link to start and sing along with me:?,?
