Parent Note for the story Anansi Goes Fishing

This week we are learning about compound words. Compound words are words made up of two smaller words. An example of this is the word butterfly (butter and fly). Today we learned about compound words and practiced reading them. Let your child share with you what they learned today and allow them to read these words to you. If they get them all right, give them a big hug. If they have a harder time, give them a hug for doing their best and keep practicing.

After all, practice makes perfect! (

Review cause and effect using posters / use new posters for connect to reading and workbook page 125

Ask yourself these questions when reading:

Who is this story about?

Where does it happen?

What is happening?

If you don’t know the answer to one of these questions, I have to stop the way I am reading. I might need to slow down. If I read more slowly, I can better understand what I am reading.
