Amelia Island Transforming Downtown Centre Street for

Second Annual Dickens on Centre Holiday Event

Downtown Fernandina Beach Holiday Event Dec. 8-11

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. (July 27, 2016) – Northeast Florida’s Amelia Island will once again transform its historic Centre Street in downtown Fernandina Beach into a 19th century Christmas village for its annual Dickens on Centre holiday event, Dec. 8-11. Recalling Charles Dickens’ early Victorian era Britain, the downtown experience will include horse drawn carriages and period vendors, characters and entertainers, along with festive lights and holiday décor, exciting seasonal entertainment and tastes of the holidays. The now four-day event has been expanded for 2016 to include Thursday evening activities with downtown restaurants and shops staying open daily for visitors and guests to enjoy.

“We’re excited to be expanding Dickens on Centre this year and the even more festive experience it will give visitors to Amelia Island during the holiday season,” said Gil Langley, managing director of the AITDC. “Along with a full calendar of events and great packages and rates at our award-winning hotels, resorts and B&B’s, Dickens on Centre will make this December an ideal time to come experience the island.”

In addition to the downtown restaurants, shops, galleries and other local businesses that will be participating, period street vendors will be selling handmade crafts and special holiday treats such as meat pies, scotch eggs, sausage rolls and more.

The Dickens on Centre events complement the island’s already popular Holiday Home Tour (Dec. 2-3) and Bed & Breakfast Holiday Cookie Tour (Dec. 12), as well as several other resort and destination events.
