HIGHPOWER RIFLE

We held our November High Power 'Approved' training match on Sunday, November 19th, at the CTSA Range, New Braunfels. We had 11 shooters who decided to brave the cool air. High score was KellyJeanne Pyne, firing a 772-23x. Second place went to Shawn Taylor, with a 769-30x, followed by Bobby Adams with a 744-17x. We had a new-to-us shooter at this match, Jeffrey Broaddus, a Marine Reserve Shooter from the Austin area.

We also held our Pearl Harbor Remembrance Training Match on Sunday, December 3rd. High score was Jeffrey Townsend, with a 465-5x. Second place went to John Cholak, with a 456-9x, follow by Wayne Nunn with a 450-10x. The fog was thick like pea soup and didn't let up until about 1030 or so. We had two competitors for the M1 Carbine Rattle Battle. Eric Johnson and Bruce Finley. After the dust settled, Bruce Finley was the winner of the infamous Ken Slade M1 Carbine Rattle Battle Trophy. It couldn't have been more fitting than to have Joseph Ramirez (Ken's son) present the Trophy to Bruce.

The next scheduled High Power training match is scheduled for Saturday, January 27th, at the CTSA Range, New Braunfels. Match fee is $20 for adults, $10 for Military, and $10 for juniors. Gate should be open by 0730, followed by sign-up. Fun begins at 0830 for squadding and set up. First rounds go down range at 0900. This will be the 88 round NRA across-the-course training match. It is not 'APPROVED". Shooters will score and pull targets. Shooters choosing not to pull targets must provide a substitute puller.

The next CMP/Garand match, will be held on Saturday, March 24th, at the CTSA Range, New Braunfels. We will be shooting the course 'B', which is 55 shots. This course starts off with 5 sighting shots in 5 minutes and 20 shots slow fire prone in 20 minutes. Next stage is prone rapid fire, 10 shots in 80 second standing to prone. Third stage is sitting rapid, 10 shots in 70 seconds standing to sitting. Fourth stage is standing, firing 10 shots in 10 minutes. All stages will be shot at the 200 yard line utilizing the pits. Shooters will score and pull targets. Shooters choosing not to pull targets must provide a substitute puller. Match fee is $20 for adults and $10 for juniors and active military. Surplus 30-06 ammo will be available for purchase...$15 for 55 rounds. Gate should be open by 0730, followed by sign-up. Fun begins at 0815 for set up and first rounds down range at 0900. I have two organizational Garands. If someone wants to shoot one, let me know and I'll bring it out.

I'm scheduled for my eye surgery on December 5th. I will need someone to fill in for me for a few months, as I won't be able to do much of anything. Please let me know if you're willing to help out, so we can keep the matches as scheduled. Some of the months (January and February) are covered already. JG Kelley

Braun 4H is continuing to hold practice on Sundays @ 0930 at Blackhawk in preparation for March Madness in Austin. Juniors will compete in 3P and standing Light Rifle. 4H postal matches have also begun and the juniors will participate in these as extra practice towards mastering each discipline. We also had a new family show up to one of practice and got their 8 year daughter on target for her first shooting experience.
