Weather Forecasting Project- US

For this project, you will be working with your partner to write a two-day weather forecast. In order to do this, you will have to analyze different weather maps and predict the movement of the following things that you will find on the map:

1) The types of fronts (warm, cold, stationary, occluded)

2) The high and low pressure systems

3) The temperatures

4) The amount of precipitation

5) Any possible severe weather (Thunderstorms, Tornados, Hurricanes, Blizzards, Lake Effect Snow, etc.)

For each of these topics, you will need to explain what they are and how they influence the surrounding weather.

You will use this website to choose weather maps to analyze from two days that you choose:

Then each partner choose one of the two days and will write a weather report for the weather map that you chose. You will focus on a specific US city (local weatherman), but also talk about the surrounding areas and country. Each partner will complete a first draft of their day’s report that your partner will edit for grammar, and for correct information according to the maps.

You will need to practice speaking your report and then you will video record it using a green screen, with each partner speaking for one day of the forecast. Your weather maps will then be edited into your video on the green screen.

You will be graded on the following things:

1) A written draft of what you will be saying in your weather report.

2) Presentation Skills: Correct grammar and clear pronunciation during your speaking part.

3) Speaking about the warm and cold fronts, the high and low pressure systems, the temperatures and precipitation on your map.

4) Explanation & Reasoning of what on the weather map leads to your predictions. (WHY are those your predictions)

5) Being accurate in your weather report.

6) Team work, 2-4 minute presentation and Creativity and Organization will also be graded.

(See Rubric for more details)

Weather Forecasting Project- Global

For this project, you will be working with your partner to write a weather forecast for 2 separate cities in your chosen region/continent. In order to do this, you will have to analyze the weather map and predict the movement of the following things that you will find on the map:

1) The types of fronts (warm, cold, stationary, occluded)

2) The high and low pressure systems

3) The temperatures

4) The amount of precipitation

5) Any possible severe weather (Thunderstorms, Tornados, Hurricanes, Blizzards, Lake Effect Snow, etc.)

For each of these topics, you will need to explain what they are, and how they influence the surrounding weather.

You will use this website to choose a weather map to analyze from one Region/Continent that you choose:

(*The region you choose must have at least 3 fronts and 2 pressure systems)

Each partner will focus on a different city (local weatherman), but also talk about the surrounding areas and the country. Each partner will complete a first draft of their report that their partner will edit for grammar, and for correct information according to the map.

You will need to practice speaking your report and then you will video record it using a green screen, with each partner speaking for their city’s forecast. Your weather maps will then be edited into your video on the green screen.
