Demonstrate the movements using command voice and military bearing; set the standard for performance.BASIC DRILL TERMINOLOGY1. Purpose of Drill: a. Instills disciplineb. Promotes teamwork – Esprit De Corpsc. Move from point “A” to point “B” in an orderly manner2. Drill Defined:a. File – single column of persons placed one behind the otherb. Rank – single line of persons placed side by sidec. Center – middle point of a formation. (1) On an odd numbered front, the center is the center person(2) On an even numbered front, the center is the right center person d. Guide – individual designated to regulate the direction and rate of marche. Base File – element on which a movement is planned, regulated, or aligned(1) Column formation this is the 3rd element (dress to the right)(2) Inverted column formation this would be the 3rd element (dress to the left)(3) Line formation this would be the element leaders (dress to the right)(4) Inverted line formation this would be the element leaders (dress to the left)f. Element - basic formation; unit of at least 3 cadets; usually 8-12 individuals with onedesignated as the element leaderg. Flight - two or more elementsh. Squadron - two or more flights3. Most commonly used formations:a. Column/Inverted Column- Used to march from point A to B. b. Line/Inverted Line- Inspection, Open Ranks, etc.4. Dress, Cover, Interval and Distance:a. Dress – alignment of individuals side by side or in line maintaining proper intervalb. Cover – individual alignment directly behind the cadets immediate front c. Interval – space between individuals placed side by side. (1) Normal Interval is approximately one arm’s length, 40”(2) Close Interval – is approximately 4”d. Distance – space from chest to back between cadets, usually considered to be 40” 5. Steps (size):a. Side Step – 12” Measured from inside the heelsb. Half Step – 12” Measured from heel to heelc. Double time – 30”6. Cadence: – steps per minutea. Quick Time – 100-120b. Double Time – 1807. Drill Commands:(a) Preparatory Command/ Command of Execution- Forward, MARCH(b) Combined Command- FALL IN, AT EASE, REST(c) Supplemental- COLUMN OF FILES, STAND FAST(d) Informational- PREPARE FOR INSPECTION, DISMISS THE SQUADRON8. Command Voice Characteristics:(a) Loudness- Volume used in giving commands. (b) Projection- Ability to project voice to a distance without undue strain while focusing on the person farthest away. (c) Distinctness- Correct use of tongue, lips and teeth to form separate sounds of words to emphasize clear enunciation(d) Inflection- Change of pitch in voice when giving preparatory command near natural voice level while inflecting the last word or syllable. Command of execution is higher, with no inflection(e) Snap- Extra quality in a command voice that demands immediate response9. Cadence: Defined as a uniform and rhythmic flow of words. (a) Measure or beat of movement by counting verbiage. Given in sets of two(1) One – “Hut”(2) Two – “Toop”(3) Three – “Threep”(4) Four – “Forp” 30 COUNT DRILL SEQUENCE INSTRUCTIONFALL IN1. REQUIREMENTS: Enough cadets to form a FlightEnough room to form a FlightPerformed at the cadence of quick time2. Upon receiving the command of FALL IN:GOB takes a position to the left and facing the Flight Commander so the Flight is centered and three paces away.GOB will execute an automatic Dress Right Dress with the guidon at the carry positionGOB will execute an automatic Ready Front when you feel the shoulder of the first element leader and go to order guidon.First element leader falls in directly to the left of GOB, executes and automatic Dress Right DressRemaining element leaders Fall In behind the first element leader and execute an automatic Dress Right DressRemaining cadets Fall In to any open position to the left of the element leaders, once halted, execute an automatic Dress Right Dress3. On Parade, mentally prepare yourself. b. On REST: (1) Raise the left leg from the hip just enough for the foot to clear the ground (2) Keeping the leg straight, smartly move left foot to the left and place it 22 ? ? off centerline of the body. Heels in line and approx. 12” apart measured from inside the heels. (3) Simultaneously, bring hands to the back of the body, uncupping them (a) Extend and join fingers pointing them toward the ground, palms out.(b) Place the back of the right hand into palm of the left hand with right thumb over left thumb forming an “X”, pointing down.Keep arms fully extended.Keep head and eyes forward.3. Flight Attention a. On Flight, mentally prepare yourself. b. On ATTENTION: (1) Bring left heel together with the right heel so that heels are in-line and the feet form a 45?. (2) Simultaneously, bring hands to the sides cupping hands in the process. (3) Place thumbs along seam of trousers (4) Arms hang straight alongside body and eyes are straight forward (5) Maintain silence and immobilityLEFT FACEREQUIREMENTS:Halted at attentionCadence of quick time.Left FaceOn Left, mentally prepare yourself.On FACE: This is a two count movement. To complete step one:Slightly raise the toes of left foot and heel of right footKeep leg straight and pivot 90? to the left assisted by slight pressure on the ball of the right foot.Place left foot 22 1/2? off the center line of the body.Upper body remains at Attention.To complete count two:Bring the right heel together with the left heel so heels are in line and feet form a 45? angle.Body is back at Attention.ABOUT FACEREQUIREMENTS:Halted at attentionCadence of quick time.About FaceOn About, mentally prepare yourself.On FACE:This is a two count movement. To complete step one:Raise right leg from the hip just enough for foot to clear the ground.Without bending the knees, place ball of right foot approx. ? shoe length behind and slightly to the left of the left heel.Distribute weight of body on ball of right foot and heel of the left foot to establish the two pivot points.Keep your legs straight but not stiff; upper body remains at Attention.To complete count two:Keep your hand at your sides, pivot 180? to the right with a twisting motion from hips.The upper body remains at Attention throughout the movement.Body is back at Attention.FORWARD MARCHREQUIREMENTS: Halted at attention.Any formation.Cadence of quick time.Forward MarchOn Forward, mentally prepare yourself.On MARCH:With the left foot you will begin taking 24” steps; placing the heel on the ground first. Begin natural arm swing; arms should hang straight; hands should be cupped with thumbs pointed down.Cadence is given in sets of two.Counts one and three are given as the left heel strikes the ground.Counts two and four are given as the right heel strikes the ground. FLIGHT HALT 3. Flight Halt- commands may be given on either foot, provided both are given on the same foot.a. Flight, mentally prepare yourself, but continue to march.b. On HALT: (1) Take one more 24” step and place the lead foot 22 1/2? off the center line of the body. (2) Bring the trailing foot forward so heels come together with snap. (3) Ensure heels are together, in-line, and feet form a 45? angle.c. Body is back at attention.RIGHT FLANK MARCH1. REQUIREMENTS: a. Marching at attention. b. Any formation. c. Cadence of quick time.2. Right Flank March- commands are given as the heels of the right foot strikes the ground. a. On Right Flank, mentally prepare yourself but continue to march. b. On MARCH, everyone takes one more 24” step with the left foot. (1) As weight of the body comes forward on the ball of the left foot, suspend arm swing and pivot 90? to the right.(2) Starting with the right foot, begin taking 24” steps and resume arm swing.(3) Maintain DCID throughout the movement.LEFT FLANK MARCH1. REQUIREMENTS:a. Marching at attention.b. Column Formation.c. Cadence of quick time.2. Column Right March- Commands are given as the heel of the right foot strikes the ground. a. On Column Right, mentally prepare yourself but continue to march. b. On MARCH:(1) Third element leader:(a) Take one more 24” step with left foot as the weight of the body comes forward on the ball of left foot, suspend arm swing and pivot 90? to the right.(b) Take one full 24” step with the right foot and resume arm swing(c) Starting with the left foot start taking 12” steps. (2) Remaining members of the 3rd element: (a) Continue marching to approx. pivot point of the third element leader. (b) As the weight of the body comes forward on the ball of left foot, suspend arm swing and pivot 90? to the right. (c) Take one full 24” step with the right foot and resume arm swing. (d) Starting with left foot start taking 12” steps and reestablish cover and distance. (3) Remaining Element leaders: (a) Take one more 24” step with left foot as the weight of the body comes forward on the ball of left foot, pivot 45? to the right. (b) Take two (2nd element) four (1st element) 24” steps and as the weight of body comes forward on the ball of the left foot, pivot 45? to the right with arm swing. (c) Take 24” steps until abreast of the element leader to your right. (4) Remaining members of the elements (a) Continue marching to approx. pivot point of the third element leader. (b) Take one more 24” step with left foot as the weight of the body comes forward on the ball of left foot, pivot 45? to the right. (c) Take two (2nd element) four (1st element) 24” steps and as the weight of body comes forward on the ball of the left foot, pivot 45? to the right with arm swing. (d) Take 24” steps until abreast of the cadet to your right. (e) Begin taking 12” steps and re-establish dress and cover.(5) GOB executes the movement in the same manner as the 3rd element leader. (a) Continue taking 24” steps until ahead of the 3rd element leader. (b) Execute two (2) distinct pivots to get in front of the 3rd element leader. (c) Once DCID is reestablished. The only command allowed is Forward March3. Forward March- Commands are given as the heel of the left foot strikes the ground. a. On Forward, mentally prepare yourself, but continue to march in 12” steps. b. On MARCH:(1) Take one more 12” step with the right foot.(2) Starting with the left foot, begin taking 24” steps.TO THE REAR MARCH1. REQUIREMENTS:a. Marching at attention.b. Any formation.c. Cadence of quick time.2. To the Rear March- Commands are given as the right foot strikes the ground. a. On To the Rear, mentally prepare yourself but continue to march. b. On MARCH:(1) Take one 12” step with the left foot & place it in front of & in line with the right foot.(2) Distribute body weight of the body on the balls of both feet and suspend arm swing.(3) Pivot 180? to the right without forcing the body up or leaning forward.(4) Take one 12” step with the left foot and resume coordinated arms swing.(5) Begin taking 24” steps with the right foot.EYES RIGHT1. REQUIREMENTS:a. Marching at attention.b. In column formation.c. Cadence of quick time.2. Eyes Right- Commands are given as the heel of the right foot strikes the ground. a. The FC commands, Eyes, Right when the flight is in position. b. There is a three step delay between the preparatory command & the command of execution. c. On Eyes:(1) Guide smartly raises guidon straight up.(2) Remaining members of flight continue to march. d. On RIGHT: (1) Guide smartly lowers guidon to a position straight ahead and parallel to the ground.(2) Once the guidon is steady, the guide lowers left arm, resumes arm swing and smartlyturns head and eyes 45? to the right. (3) Remaining flight members (except the third element) smartly turn head and eyes 45?to the right as the left heel strikes the ground; maintain dress to the right. (4) Members of the fourth element continue to march and maintain distance and cover.(5) Continue to march until given Ready Front.READY FRONT1. REQUIREMENTS:a. Marching at attention.b. In column formation.c. Cadence of quick time.2. Ready Front- Commands are given as the heel of the left foot strikes the ground. a. The FC commands, Ready, Front when the flight is in position. b. There is a three step delay between the preparatory command & the command of execution. c. On preparatory command, Ready:(1) Guide smartly raises guidon straight up.(2) Remaining flight members continue marching. d. On command of execution, FRONT:(1) Guide lowers guidon to the carry position and turns head to the front.(2) Remaining Flight members turn their heads and eyes to the front.(3) Flight continues marching and follows commands given to them by the FC.CHANGE STEP 1. REQUIREMENTS:a. Marching at attention.b. Any formation.c. Cadence of quick time.2. Change Step- Commands are given as the right foot strikes the ground. a. On Change Step, mentally prepare yourself but continue to march. b. On MARCH:(1) Take one 24” step with the left foot. (2) In one count:(a) Place the ball of the right foot alongside the heel of the left foot and suspend arm swing, without raising up or leaning forward (b) Transfer body weight of the body to the right foot and immediately step off with the left foot in a 24” step resuming arms swing. (3) Upper body remains at Attention throughout the drill movement.RIGHT STEP MARCH1. REQUIREMENTS:a. Halted at attention.b. Any Formation.c. Cadence of quick time.2. Right Step March a. On Right Step, mentally prepare yourself b. On MARCH:(1) Raise the right leg from the hip just enough for the foot to clear the ground.(2) Keep legs straight, move the right foot approximately 12” to the right of the left foot.(3) Without scraping the ground, bring the left heel together with the right heel with snap, soheels are in line and feet form a 45?.(4) Upper body stays at Attention throughout the movement.(5) Continue taking steps until given Flight Halt.FLIGHT HALTFlight Halt- Commands are given as the heels come together. a.On Flight, mentally prepare yourself, but continue taking steps. b.On HALT:(1) Take one more 12” step with the right foot and place it 22 1/2? off the center line of the body.(2) Smartly bring the left heel together with the right heel so heels are in line and feet are at a 45?.(3) Body is back at Attention.DRILL COMPETITION GUIDANCEINSPECTION Initial Reporting: Flights will report to the designated inspection area at their assigned time. There may be a short wait depending on whether or not there is a team being inspected in front of you. When it is your turn, let the head judge know that you are ready to proceed. The judge will give you directions on what to do from that point on. Reporting In: When told to proceed, the Flight Commander (FC) will march his/her flight in to the inspection area and center the Flight on the head judge and report in. The report will include the FC’s name and flight designation. Grading will begin with the report. The head judge will direct the FC to prepare the flight for inspection. At this time the FC will position him/her-self approximately 6 paces from and centered on the Flight and give the command of Open Ranks March. Upon the command of Open Ranks March the FC will perform a cursory alignment on all elements. Once the cursory inspection is completed the FC will go 3 paces past the GOB, execute a left face and give the command of Ready Front. Take one step forward and execute a Right Face, salute and report to the Head Judge that the flight is prepared for inspection. The head judge will return salute and tell the FC to proceed with inspection procedures.The FC will execute a left face and give the command of 2nd and 3rd elements Parade Rest and will then post in front of the 1st element leader. Once inspection is completed, the FC will go 3 paces past the GOB, halt, perform a left face and give the command of Flight, ATTENTION. Once the Flt is at the position of attention the FC will take 1 step, halt, perform a right face, salute and report out. The Head judge will return salute and tell the FC to finish procedures and proceed to the 30 Count Drill pad. The FC will then drop salute, perform a left face, give the command of Close Ranks, MARCH, place the Flt at Ease/Parade Rest/Rest and then proceed to the center of formation and assume the same position given to the Flight. FC will then call the flight to attention and proceed to the 30 count drill area. Grading ends when the FC calls the flight back to attention. General Rules: FC will prepare flight for Open Ranks inspection IAW AFMAN 36-2203. Questions pertaining to the military chain of command, basic AFJROTC knowledge, Cadet Study Guide, and acronyms may be asked during the inspection. The manner of response will influence the bearing and discipline score. Accuracy of the response will influence the knowledge score.-12919081597040030 COUNT DRILL COMPETITION PROCEDURESInitial Reporting: Flights will report to the designated drill pad once they have completed the inspection portion of the competition. Upon arrival let the head judge know that you are ready. Proceed as directed by the head judge.Reporting In: When told by the head judge to start, the Flight Commander (FC) will march his/her Flight on to the drill pad, center the flight on the head judge and report in. The report will include the FC’s name and flight designation. Grading will begin with the report. The FC will proceed with the 30 count drill sequence.Reporting Out: After completing the 30 count drill sequence, the FC will report out. Grading ends with this report. General Rules: The entire 30 count drill sequence must be completed from memory, with no notes or assistance.The 30 count drill sequence must comply with AFMAN 36-2203. The flight will be graded on military bearing, dress, cover, interval and distance and precision of military movements. The FC will be graded on command voice, military bearing, and control of the flight. EXHIBITION DRILL COMPETITION PROCEDURESInitial Reporting: Flights will report to the designated drill pad once the 30 Count Drill Sequence portion of the competition has been completed. Upon arrival, let the head judge know that you are ready. Proceed as directed by the head judge.Reporting In: When told by the head judge to start, the Flight Commander (FC) will march the flight on to the drill pad and centered on the head judge and then report in. The report will include the FC’s name and flight designation. Grading and time period will begin with the report. Reporting Out: After completing the Exhibition sequence, the FC will report out. Grading and time period ends with this report. General Rules: The Unarmed Exhibition portion of this competition is not required to conform to AFMAN 36-2203; however, dance moves that would be considered distasteful or disrespectful in any way will not be tolerated. The performance must last between 2 and 4 minutes based upon the reporting in and reporting out times. Teams will be judged on reporting procedures, variety of movements, precision, originality, choreography, appearance, use of the drill area, degree of difficulty, time control and overall impression. The FC will be graded on command voice and military bearing. ................
