Line Up:

Main Conference—Writer’s Digest Conference West attendees mix and match sessions from three education tracks: Platform & Promotion, Getting Published, and the Craft of Writing. Sessions take place Friday, September 27, at 4:00 pm to Sunday, September 29 at 12:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles, CA. View the main conference schedule.

Self-Publishing Conference—The Self-Publishing Conference takes place on Friday, September 27, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 pm at the same location as the main conference. This conference is a prequel to Writer’s Digest Conference West and focuses on the self-publishing industry. View the Self-Publishing Conference schedule.

Boot Camps—Boot Camps are specialized three-hour sessions that take place Friday, September 27, at 9:00 am and 12:30 pm at the same location as the main conference. These in-depth workshops are being offered for an additional price of $149 each. View the Boot Camp schedule.

Additional Conference Features:

Pitch Slam—The Pitch Slam event is a pulse-pounding, real-life chance to pitch your writing to literary agents and get instant feedback—and maybe even sell your story. You’ll go head-to-head with literary agents and editors from Los Angeles, New York, and points in between that represent all genres of writing. They’ve got one thing in common: They’re all actively looking for new writers.

Cocktail Reception—Network with your peers, speakers, and agents during the cocktail reception. Maybe you’ll meet your future writing partner or publishing agent!

Extended Sessions—Go in-depth with our extended 90-minute sessions. These cover a range of topics from self-publishing to improving your manuscript.

Jim has served as fiction columnist for Writer's Digest magazine, to which he frequently contributes, and has written three bestselling craft books for Writers Digest Books, including the bestselling Write Great Fiction: Plot & Structure and Elements of Fiction Writing: Conflict & Suspense.

Tim Powers is the author of thirteen novels, including The Anubis Gates, Declare, Hide Me Among the Graves, and On Stranger Tides, which was adapted for the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie of the same title. His novels have twice won the Philip K. Dick Memorial Award, twice won the World Fantasy Award, and three times won the Locus Poll Award.

Powers has taught fiction writing classes at the University of Redlands, Chapman University, and the Orange County High School of the Arts, and has been an instructor at the Writers of the Future program and the Clarion Science Fiction Workshop at Michigan State University.

Powers lives with his wife, Serena, in San Bernardino, California.
