At BCHS, the science classes are in crisis! All of the representations of animal and plant cells have been “borrowed”. You are responsible for creating a model of either a plant or animal cell OR a model of plant tissues found in a leaf that can be used to explain clearly the structure and function. This model can be represented in many ways, such as a 3D model using food or craft supplies, a drawing, using clay for sculpting, a transparent flip-book etc. If there is a way you want to represent your cell that is not listed, please discuss with your teacher in order for it to be approved. This is your unit project, so it is due on the day after your unit exam. Treat your unit project as a way to study for your exam, but it is not the only method of studying for the exam. There is key information that will be on the exam that will not be included in the unit project.Refer to the rubrics to see what you have to include in your model.NOTE: If you do a cell model, you have to complete the questions regarding your understanding of the plant tissue and if you are doing the plant tissue model, you have to complete the questions regarding the cell function. Both Projects are out of a possible 40 marks, so there is not one project that will be easier or worth fewer marks.CELL QUESTIONS FOR THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO DO A PLANT TISSUE MODEL (20)List the organelles found in an animal and a plant cell, describe their function (12)What are the differences between plant and animal cells (3)Discuss the methods of cell transport – describe each method in one sentence (4)What happens if a cell is in a solution that has a lot of dissolved matter (like an animal cell that is in salt water)? (1)PLANT QUESTIONS FOR THOSE WHO DO A CELL MODEL (20)Explain the two types of plant systems. (2)Describe the specialized cells and their function found in a leaf cross section. (8)What is the difference between the xylem and phloem? What type of tissue are they both found in?(2)Compare the leaf tissue to the root tissue; compare and contrast the leaf to the root (4)How are terrestrial plants different from aquatic plants? (2)When someone tears a strip of bark from a tree, they are removing all the phloem under the bark. If the strip goes completely around the tree, the tree will die. Explain why (2)After deciding which you will do, please let Ms Nielsen know so she knows what to expect for you to turn in.Unit C Project – Science 10?
