I decided to do my advance project on my Sketchup project that I did a few months ago, here is a little bit about Sketchup itself and where it came from.
SketchUp, marketed officially as Trimble SketchUp, is a 3D modeling program for applications such as architectural, interior design, civil and mechanical engineering, film, and video game design. A freeware version, Sketchup Make, and a paid version with additional functionality, Sketchup Pro, are available. The company was owned independently from 2000 to 2006, then by google, and from 2012 by Trimble Navigation, a mapping, surveying, and navigation equipment company. The program claims to be easy to use. There is an online repository of free-of-charge model assemblies examples would be windows, doors, automobiles. 3D Warehouse, to which users may contribute models. The program includes drawing layout functionality, allows surface rendering in variable styles, supports third-party "plug-in" programs hosted on a site called Extension Warehouse to provide other capabilities (e.g., near photo-realistic rendering), and enables placement of its models.
On April 27, 2006, Google announced Google SketchUp, a free downloadable version of SketchUp, without some functionality of SketchUp Pro, but including integrated tools for uploading content to Google Earth and to the Google 3D Warehouse. A toolbox enables a viewer to "walk around" and see things from different viewpoints, and supports labels for models, a look-around tool, and an "any polygon" shape tool.
What is SketchUp and why is it part of Google? At it’s core, SketchUp is very powerful 3-D modeling software of the type used by architects and drafters. They bought the company that originally created it in 1999 and soon released a free version along side of the $500 Pro version.
SketchUp may seem like a strange match for Google but the reasoning becomes clear when you realize they are in the process of building a 3D world to go with their 2D maps. Making available a free, easy to use modeling program means they’ll have plenty of amateur designers, like you, willing to contribute.
Sketchup vs. Sketchup Pro – the Pro version includes additional tools for those who do professional modeling. If you’d like to see the differences for yourself, teachers can get a free copy of Pro (but schools must buy licenses for student use). The price is $495 for a single version with lower per license fees for quantity purchases.
What can you do with the free version of Sketchup?
Easily create a 3D drawing that approximate real life objects.
Use aerial photographs from Google Earth, a photograph of the object, or file from other CAD programs.
Make models that are almost as detailed as you have time to make them.
Share models through Google’s 3D warehouse, export images in many different formats, or export movies of your work.
What can’t you do with the free version of Sketchup (but can with Pro)?
Create photorealistic renderings.
Animate objects or insert creations into other animation programs.
Include the large amount of metadata that can be used by professional-level modeling programs
Technical requirements – According to Google, the recommended computer requirements are a 2+ ghz processor, 2 gb of RAM, 500 mb drive space, and most importantly a 3D-class video card with 512 mb memory.
That’s recommended. The minimal specs are much lower but using a machine with less than the recommended could be very frustrating
When I first started out with this project I really didn’t know what I wanted to do, first I wanted to do a Screen printing of a cool picture but that fell threw pretty fast, then I wanted to do a How To, but that didn’t go how I wanted it to go so eventually I decided to do a sketchup project.
My Sketchup project began with a one story house with a few rooms into it, when I was working on it I decided to make the house into a two story house and then I decided to add a garage onto it. The reasons why I did this is because I wanted to make the house look bigger and also when I get older I would like to have a two story house. When I added the top part to the house I had to make an extra bedroom in the upstairs because I had to add a kids room and I also had to fill up more space because there was to much opened space.
