Greetings!! ?????????????We hope you are doing well. ?My name is Elon Musk, CEO and Founder of SpaceX, a private American space transport services company. ?I am looking for the best planet in our Solar System to colonize. ?My research team has decided that this project is unworthy and decided to go on strike until a more interesting idea comes up!According to your amazing and wonderful teachers, they say you have what it takes to join my team and help me colonize another planet!! ?I hear that you are learning a lot about what makes a perfect society. ?Once we finally get OUT there, we will need to use your expertise in developing a society that will get along and function in a calm and peaceful way… i.e. Perfection!!I know this may be challenging and new to you, but I think you will enjoy researching the solar system and planets within. This is your Mission:You and your team have been given the following mission to research a planet/natural satellite and plan, design, create and present an in-depth and exciting colonization proposal for Elon Musk. The following steps need to be completed before you are ready to present: Step 1: Planet Research Phase - the Initial ProposalAfter choosing a planet and forming your team, you will need to come up with a name for your "aerospace company".You will then use the questions we have come up with to research your planet and use the facts you find to inform your proposal. Everything you find must compare and contrast to earth in some way. Even though you are an aerospace company, you should be aware that besides scientific thinkers the company would need writers, artists who can draw, dreamers who can come up with ideas, company administrators who could make sure the deadlines are met etc. This way, you can see that you can contribute in different manners to your groups.Step 2: Government: Create your own Charter (Social Needs)What is your form of government? How does it work? Explain why you chose this style. How are decisions made? Explain your form of government by comparing/contrasting the structure of our local and provincial government. What are the laws, by-laws and rules of your colony?Compare your laws with ancient Greek city states, and with the great law of peace from the Iroquois confederacy. Step 3: Architectural/Engineering Phase of your design - What will your colony look like?Based on 300 people who will be colonizing your planet, how much will it cost to make this happen. ?Refer to the chart of costs to build a community and calculate your overall cost. (to be shown soon) You will need to decide how many houses are needed, schools, community/recreation centers, green spaces, agricultural growing spaces, town hall, and any other relevant services to make your colony successful. ?You need a blueprint design with measurement and dimensions, size, etc. ?Step 4: Food, nutrition, wellness (physical, psychological needs)Food - your colony should be self sufficient. ?Transporting food may not be practical (due to future food shortages) or it may be too expensive. ?What food will you need to grow, based on the number of people in your colony? What else will you need in order to survive? Entertainment - long periods in a space settlement could be boring and could create serious psychological problems for the inhabitants. How will your inhabitants spend their leisure time? Can you design sports, or other recreational opportunities to take advantage of living in space? Maybe these recreational opportunities could generate income for your colony. Perhaps, people from earth could travel to your colony to participate in these activities for a fee?Physical/Mental Health - How will you physically and mentally prepare for life in space? Based on what you know about gravity for each planet, how will this affect your body/mind?Step 5: Terraform your Colony - this will be added to your initial proposal. How will you potentially terraform your planet so that it can be more habitable and sustainable. Below are important factors to consider:Atmosphere -What will you use to create an atmosphere? How will you do this?Gravity - gravity is essential for long periods in space to maintain bone structure. ?How is your colony going to generate the needed gravity? Shielding - earth's atmosphere shields us from harmful radiation and/or temperature. Your colony will need a shield to protect its inhabitants from harmful radiation from the sun and space (cosmic rays). Energy - how are you going to generate energy for all of your colony's needs?Transportation - how to get to and from your planet and EarthEnd Product:Our Final Proposal should include the following: Slide, ppt, keynote, video, brochure, etc. (this is where the team will try to persuade its audience, outlining the great things about the planet and living there)Blueprint of the what the colony will look like: roads, buildings, infrastructureBudget outlining costs of building and maintaining the colonyGoogle Sketch-up and/or a Scaled 3D model of the colony (May need to be completed at home)Outline of your Colony’s Charter: Rights, Responsibilities and Freedoms for citizens living within the colony Parent Signature_____________________ ????Student Signature_____________________ ................
