3rd Grade Promotion Requirements/ Alternative Assessments

? All 3rd Grade Students will take the ELA/Math FSA (Reading April 3-12, 2019 ) and (Math May 6-14, 2019) ? Students must receive a Level 2 or higher to pass

3rd Grade Reading Portfolio (Administered from January 22 -May 3, 2019) ? Administered during the 2nd semester ? All 3rd grade students will complete portfolio ? Student must demonstrate mastery of each benchmark

Alternative Standardized Reading Assessment (ASRA) (Administered from May 20 ? June 6, 2019) ? Participants: Students scoring a Level 1 on the ELA FSA and that did not pass Grade 3 Reading Portfolio

Alternative Assessment for Grade 3 Promotion ? Participants: Students scoring a Level 1 on the ELA FSA and did not pass the Grade 3 Reading Portfolio or ASRA ? Mandatory summer school ? Reassessed in July for possible promotion/Final reading test administered during the last week of summer school.

The Portfolio Assessment is an alternative standardized reading assessment that provides teachers with tools and resources which may be used to document evidence of a student's mastery of the third-grade ELA standards.

Assessment in January and a letter with all dates will be sent home with your child.

About the FSA

The Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) is an assessment that

? measures student mastery based on the Common Core Standards (which is aligned with

instruction).

Understanding the scores

? The success a student has achieved

with the Florida Standards will be determined by the ELA (Reading) and Mathematics FSA and is described by:

from: 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest).

? Level 3 indicates a satisfactory or

an on grade level performance.

? Students must score a Level 2 or

higher to pass the FSA test.
