Welcome to 2nd Grade

Welcome to 3rd Grade!I am excited to be teaching 3rd grade this year and I’m anxious to have you in my classroom. I hope you enjoyed your summer and ready to begin learning once again. I enjoyed reading the letters that many of you wrote me last spring. To answer a few questions, we will definitely begin cursive right away, learning one letter at a time. Hopefully by Christmas time most of our work will be done in cursive. I know many of you enjoy math and reading. I have many math games to use daily and many books in the classroom to read! Here is a list of school supplies that you will need for the school year. It is different than the list posted online.* 12 pencils sharpened* 1 hand held pencil sharpener* 1 scissors Fiskar* 1 box colored pencils* 2 book covers Jumbo size* 4 dry erase markers * 3 highlighters (different colors)* 1 large eraser* 4 glue sticks * 1 bottle Elmer’s glue* 1 2 pocket folders with 3 prong * 2 pkg. loose leaf paper * 1 2” 3 ring binder* 2 spiral notebooks * 1 box gallon size zipper bags (boys) * 1 box sandwich bags (girls) * 1 box Kleenex* 1 pair of gym shoes * 1 backpack/book bagOpen House is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19 from 5:30-7:00. I would love to meet you that evening. Please bring all your school supplies if you have them. If your child needs a snack, feel free to send a snack for them to have in their backpack to eat after recess. It needs to be healthy and nutritious (cheese sticks, granola bars, nuts, jerky, fruit, vegetables…) No chips, candy, sugar cereal, pop tarts, or cookies! Please make sure there is nothing with peanut butter or peanuts in your snacks as there are children with air-borne peanut allergies. The first day of school is Thursday, August 21; our school day begins at 8:02 and ends at 3:30, Fridays will end at 2:28 (please note the time changes). More information about 3rd grade will be sent home during open house. If you have any questions, please email me at tjones@ or call me at 277-4441 or 788-3832. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
