Complete 15 or more activities and return to your teacher with your journal the first week of school.

Most spiders have 8 eyes. How many eyes would there be on 8 spiders?

Count the pairs of shoes in your home. What fraction have laces? What fraction are brown? How many are there in all?

Roll two dice and multiply. Record

your answers. Do

this 25 times. Create a bar graph with the results.

What is the seventh number in this pattern? 2, 4, 7, 9, 12…

Play “Fraction Concentration” on the web.

Play “Subtraction War” from the game choices menu. Record at least 5 plays in your journal.

Nancy had 37 cents in her pocket. What coins could she have? List all combinations.

If there are 24 colored marbles in a jar and ¼ are yellow, then how many are yellow?

Estimate how many cups of water it takes to fill a pot. Check your estimate by measuring. About how many pints would that be?

Add the 10 digits in your phone number. Can you divide the sum by 2 without a remainder?

Play “Multiplication War” from the game choices menu. Record at least 5 plays in your journal.

You owe $16.50. If you pay $1.75 each week, how many weeks will it take to pay the debt?

Write a story problem for

6 x 9.

Then solve it!

Play “Race to Zero” from the game choices menu. Record at least 5 plays in your journal.

A farmer has chickens and cows. What combinations could total 24 legs?

Play “Product Game” on the Web.

Write a story problem for 96 ÷ 7. Then solve it!

Which answer is larger: 34x8 or 500-248? Remember to show your work!

Read a true book. Write 5 facts you learned while reading.

Make a book of your own, use any idea from:

Draw a new cover for a book you read this summer. Include the title, author, and a sentence about the book.

Visit the Library! Read a fairy tale. Write about your favorite part. Tell why you liked it best.

Sign up for the summer reading program at any Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. Check out my website for reading lists:



Take a walk with an adult. List all of the things you heard and saw.

Record the titles of 10 books you read this summer in the middle of this board.

Glue a picture from a magazine, the internet, or other source. Write a story about what could be happening in the picture.

Write a letter to your favorite author. Tell him/her what you like about their book(s).

Read a book in a quiet spot for 15 minutes. What was your favorite part?

Design a special award for your favorite book character. Tell what the character did to earn this special award.

Make a list of 10 things you would like your teacher to know about you.

Write 10 questions you would like to ask your new teacher

Make a list of all the games you like to play. Put them in ABC order and circle your favorite. Tell why you like it best!
