Non-Juvenile Ratings Service (Turf Racing)

Non-Juvenile Ratings Service (Turf Racing)

The non-juvenile ratings service covers all turf races which are not restricted to two-year-olds.

Service Content

• The ratings sheet provides many details for each runner as well as the speed ratings. Each race is presented with the horse allocated the highest Master Rating first.

• The odds line is an expression of the predicted finishing order. So the odds line favourite is the horse considered most likely to win.

• In the past it has proved profitable to focus on the top two rated horses (those listed first and second) and the odds line favourite.

The (compressed) layout above shows the name of each runner followed by the gender (c – colt, f - filly, g - gelding), the trainer, age of horse and weight carried. The draw number is given in brackets and is followed by the days since the horse last ran on the flat in Great Britain or Ireland.

The Sire Data shows the number of wins recorded by the progeny of the animal’s sire, the total number of runs and the win rate (%). These figures are restricted to contests run over similar race distances, run during the last five seasons. The trainer data is calculated over the same period and shows results for similar races only.

The horse performance section follows. This begins with the number of wins and runs by the horse in turf flat races, the number of wins and runs in races on similar ground, and the number of wins and runs in races staged over similar distances.

The last three (turf) ratings are then displayed together with the finishing position (superscripted, * indicates an easy winner), the race distance, and running style adopted in that race:

Running Style

- raced prominently or with leaders;

>> - made all, virtually all, or most.

Historical Results

Results for the past two seasons can be easily analysed using the free NJ System Analyser which is available from pjmracing.co.uk, more data is available for the AW ratings which can also be analysed using this software package.
