My career aspiration is to become an elementary school ...

My career aspiration is to become an elementary school teacher; my plan is to teach kindergarten or first grade. One of my goals is to get my ESOL endorsement, so I can place a job easier and help Hispanic children who are having trouble with the language. The way that I’m going to achieve my goals is by working very closely with my advisor and seeking as much help when needed. Another way that my goals are going to get achieved is by educating myself first that way I can transfer my understanding to my students. I plan to become one of the best teacher with the help of Western Oregon University my goal can be achieved.

A challenge I faced was living with my brother. My brother was a person who was not doing so great; he had been involved in serious problems, involving drugs. I had a very hard time dealing with this because he would take advantage of my parents and I wouldn't stand for it. I was angry at my brother for all the pain he had caused in our family. I had to learn to forgive and learn to let go of the past. Learning how to do this was very difficult but I realized that some people make mistakes that can hurt others but some can change and that is who my brother is: a changed man. His life has changed drastically; he has started a life with a woman, is working and seems to be achieving his goal of letting go of his addictions.

I have helped my family by being the first person in my family to attend college. I have set an example for my sister and my brother that college is attainable and is worth attending. Being the first person in my family to attend college has given me the opportunity to encourage my cousins to attend also. I've helped them to apply for scholarships, for colleges and filling out the dreadful fafsa. A lot of them were afraid to move away from home and live far away but seeing that I’m succeeding only gives them strength.

A personal accomplishment I achieved was to get the courage and move away from home. This was very hard for me because the college I wanted to attend was 4 hours away from my hometown. The wanting to become something of myself was much greater than my fear to leave my perfect home. Leaving my home was a great way of getting to know myself. I've gotten to know that I’m an independent woman, a person who can be successful and so much more. This was a part of me still living at home but with the protection of my parents I hadn't realized I possessed these qualities. This accomplishment was achieved because of the strengths I discovered I have.
