Wacky Weekdays – Summer Fun

BACKGROUND

WHAT TO DO

Paper Plate Ring Toss Game

1. Pass out four paper plates, scissors, and a paint brush to each child.

2. Have the youth cut out the center of three of the plates, making sure to leave the outer edges of the plate intact.

3. Have them pain the rings they cut out with yellow, red, and blue paint (one color per ring).

4. While the painted rings are drying, pass out the paper towel rolls and have the kids use their scissors to punch a hole that is large enough to fit the end of the roll snugly into it.

5. Have the kids tap the end of the roll that is on the underside of the plate so it doesn’t slip out.

6. Have the children toss their rings over the plate and the towel roll so they fall over the roll like a ring toss game.

Paper Weaving

1. Let the kids choose previously cut scrapbook paper strips (cut into 1 inch strips).

2. Have them lay ten pieces down onto the table, make sure the strips are all facing the same direction and so close together one can’t see the table beneath in between them.

3. Tape one end of the strips to the table so it doesn’t move.

4. Begin weaving other paper strips in between the ones (over under, over under….)

5. Continue this until the original ten strips of paper have been woven over and there are no ends left.

6. Then tape all the sides of the sides of the weaving, making sure to fold the sides where the ends hang out over before taping.
