? friend of mine got 400 sbc short block of them. they charged it for sonic tests, and then one day we noticed the block had leaked outwards between the cylinders. pulled out the engine (after about 100 street miles it's for you) and it's going to take a short block back to them. we pulled out our heads, and all 4 cylinders on one side had awful grooves. it seems that they did not put a finishing hone on it or something. I mean, why only 1 bank to do this? so, it's a good thing the block was cracked because it trashed 4 pistons, and would have only gotten worse. this is my personal experience with them......... ? Sonic tests he paid for the original block that they tested never re-embursed him (sp) for. which, I think if your sonic checking, and magna fluxing block, you need to find a crack water jacket outwards......? or seen it with your eyes when you washed the block? So, they gave him a new poodle block and then there was going to stick the same pistons and rings in a new block, my friend said ##no, cause you could have seriously hooked a penny running it accrossed skirts. So they gae him 4 new pistons, rings, and collect. But it gets better. therefore they moved the chamber and lifts to a new block and gathered. they as they should. When he showed up, and the guys loaded him from the store into the truck, one of them fell there, and the engine flipped, splashing hard lifts all over the ground. my friend demanded new cameras and lifts because you shouldn't swap lifts around a hard camera when they were running..... they threw a fit, and ordered him a piece of sand lifts on a piece of glass in a circular motion of 2000 grit sand paper, with some oil on paper..... customer service @ its best imo. ? The strange thing is that they build 20+ per month, but I find very little out there about the quality of their builds. I found 3 other people who gave them and gave very positive feedback. So the result so far is 3 positive and 1 negative ? Skirts are always scratched.. as long as they are not too large and there is no transfer of materials and your skirts are not collapsed. After all, you'd think cracking the block had nothing to do with one bank getting tore up??????? ? they did work for my cousins imca mod engine. it lasted 2 races and eventually broke the elbow, bent the rods, broken pistons, trash cans. but who has to say who made the engine let go. it was all parts of the top class. it also ran 8500 s per minutes, but his new engine has that now after he was a local engine builder to do so. you'll get what you pay for. find a local builder with a very good name. ? Wish I would have had a digital camera at the time. it was impressive. as a cracked block, well, it was leaked between the water jackets outwards. between 4&6. so, i guess idk how to watter socket crack outwards, directly affected by 4 cylinders, on both skirts of each piston?? im not an engine builder, but im guessing someone went south during the final hone, and just forgot to finish the hone when they came back? maybe woody can elaborate on what happened? or at least take an educated guess ? Don't. I'm pretty decent with the engines. Nitro Engines... Anyway, when I first read that I thought the block was cracking in half. I read it again and realized if you just had a coolant leak. So were the grooves vertical or horizontal? ? Were there any large grooves above the upper ring? Does this naturally work? ? Most anyone with several tools and half the brain can assemble a short block when everything is properly draed and ready to go together. Unfortunately, there is no local machine shop that I trust in this type of construction. That's why I'm primarily focused on feedback about their assembled engines/short blocks because for me it really doesn't matter how well they sell parts of it about how well their engines hold together. They have a great price for their Dart SHP short blocks using good parts that I would take advantage of if I can determine the quality of their work. Thanks for all the feedback so far! . ? They have the highest quality material and the machine work looked great and very neat and clean place. But like I said, I haven't escaped him yet. It's kind of a loaded question... Apple apples I think we are very competitive, and will match things that are similar. The problem is to define a comparable. I leave names out of this, but these are facts about trying to get a similar product. * A well-known builder who does not torque plates in his blocks. They refine them and prep them, but links things like torque plate grinding. It's more a labor force operation to torque plate block, and it has its own performance benefits, but when you compare apples with apples it's another service. * Charge for accessories such as chamferring cylinder tops, deburring or race prepping. It's a standard service that chambfer cylinders, it's standard to run a file along the edge of the deck, deburr blocks and detail the engine ... it's just normal details of performance in the store, not upsell. * Using parts that are simply not comparable. A private label can usually be referred to as the cheapest available because it is usually what it is. If the production has a quality name, why not use it? Scat is a well-known brand, and we tell the customer what is in their engine if I said it was an XYZ brand and this is our private label because it is probably the cheaper part. For your particular creation and concern these would be the most striking issues. * Processing is not the same. Dart shortblocks are sent with nothing more than grind and wash. While it may be acceptable some stores have had many problems with the factory deck surface and MLS gaskets (they need a specific RA finish.) as well as the main line of the block or part and debur them. Everyone wants to save a couple hundred dollars, but when the gorkets cost more than savings, is it worth pulling the engine to fix it? *Cookie cutter sets. I can order a standard eagle set balanced and slap it into a block that I hone and clean. When you are shopping the price I can bet better than 50/50 of what many people do. The difference is that they use the P series bearing instead of the H series bearing (H bearings are about 3-4x as expensive as P bearings and X bearings are even more), their spaces are not always right (X bearings are more expensive than above) and machining is not the same. Eagle, for example, does not offer a fake set with X bearings, but almost all the engines we ship require an X or a mixed bearing set to get the clearance correct.
