You will find directions for each of these tasks below. Language Arts During the fourth grade school year your child will be exposed to many different genres. Please have your child chose two Sunshine State books below to read and then have them chose one of the reading tasks below for each book they read. These tasks will be presented the first two weeks of the school year. Write a letter to a friend informing him or her why they should read the book. Science“Science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated.” ~Rosalind FranklinWith the help of each class member, we are going to assemble a classroom science scrapbook! Students should take 2-3 photos of plants, animals, or humans. Write a one paragraph descriptive caption for each, including an explanation of how this photo relates to science. Using the traditional 12x12 scrapbooking paper, please create one scrapbook page using your photos and captions. MATHDirections: Complete the REQUIRED Box, as well as 8 other activities/problems of your choice.REQUIRED: Study and practice multiplication facts to become or remain fluent. This means you should be able to answer a fact question in 3 seconds.What time is it now? What time will it be in 6 1?2 hours? What time was it 15 minutes ago? 18 minutes ago? If Mia painted 400 fingernails, how many people did she see that day in her shop? If the vet examined 26 dogs, how many paws did she see? Find the perimeter and area of your front or back door. Record and explain. Draw a picture that only uses geometric shapes. Identify as many shapes as possible. Make a table to show how many of each shape was used. If you get up at 7:30 and need to be at your friend’s at 8:15, how much time do you have to get ready if it takes you 10 min. to walk there? Use the numbers 4, 5, 3, and 2 and any operations (+,-,x,÷) to create at least 10 story problems that all have different answers. Read a math story. See how many problems you can solve. Fill a sandwich bag with cereal. Estimate how many pieces are in the bag. Count to see how many there are. Find the difference between your estimate and the actual number. What number do you add to 74 to get 100? What are 2 numbers you can add to 245 to get 300? 245+___+___= 300 How many seconds are in 5 minutes? How many minutes are in 4 hours? How many seconds are in 2 1?2 minutes? When you buy school supplies (backpack, clothes, etc...) keep track of the amount you spend. Total up the cost. For 5 days record the temperature.Temp ________ Temp ________ Temp ________ Temp ________ Temp ________ Graph the results. Survey 5 people about their favorite ice cream or popsicle flavor. Create a pictograph with a key to show the results. In the number 75,643 what number is in the hundreds place? Ten thousands place? Re-arrange the numbers to create the smallest number. John has $10.00. John needs to buy two pens for $1.29 each. Estimate how much it will cost. Find the exact total & change. Ben has 6 square tiles. Each tile has a width of 8 inches. He lays the tiles down in a long row. What is the perimeter of the row of tiles? Make the largest and the smallest numbers you can using 4, 1, 7, 8, 5, and 2. Find their difference and their sum. I am thinking of an even number. It is greater than 7 x 6 and less than 6 x 10. It has a factor of 7. What numbers can I be?
