Target Vocabulary

1. seafaring – Seafaring means working or traveling at sea.

2. tidal – Something that is tidal is affected by the tides, or a regular rise and fall of the sea level.

3. foaming – A liquid that is foaming makes a layer of foam, or small bubbles.

4. outcast – Someone who is not accepted by a group may feel like an outcast.

5. yearning – A yearning is a strong desire for something.

6. memorable – Something that is memorable is so special that it is worth remembering.

7. betrayed – If you have betrayed someone, you have done something to disappoint or let that person down.

8. condition – If a person is in poor condition, he or she may be sick or out of shape. If a building is in poor condition, it may need repairs.

9. shortage – If there is not enough of something, there is a shortage of it.

10. horrified – Someone who is horrified feels shock, terror, or fear because of something unpleasant.

Parents/Guardians/Students: This week we will take an assessment on Context Clues and Text Structures in Informational Text such as: Cause-Effect, Compare-Contrast, Chronology, and Problem-Solution. We will also assess on Comparing and Contrasting Firsthand and Secondhand Accounts. Our grammar skill will be working with pronouns. In math, we will take an assessment on factors and multiples, identifying and explaining the rules for prime and composite numbers, and determining the rule a number or shape pattern follows. At the end of the week we will begin a new unit on fractions.
