It is imperative that your child memorize their multiplication facts over the summer. All fourth grade students will have a multiplication test the first week of school and throughout the school year. Please use the websites listed to reinforces skills as well as the timed multiplication quiz.We look forward to seeing you in August!Have a super summer! The Fourth Grade TeamLanguage Arts - Common Core Standards4.RI.2 Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text. 4.RI.4 Determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific words or phrases in a text relevant to a grade 4 topic or subject area. 4.RI.5 Describe the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in a text. 4.RI.6 Compare and contrast a firsthand and secondhand account of the same event or topic; describe the differences in focus and the information provided. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers. 4.OA.2 Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison 4.OA.3 Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding. 4.NBT.3 Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons. 4.NBT.5 Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models. Math Directions: Solve Word Problems Students: Your objective is to solve 5 given word problems. Follow the directions to help you find the correct answer. ALL work must be shown as to how you solved the problem using the QDPAC worksheet. No Calculators are allowed. Use the work space provided. Multiplication Practice In order for students to be successful in fourth grade it is imperative that they know their multiplication facts. Students should know their facts 2’s to 12’s. Memorize your facts until you know them automatically! You may study online, with flash cards, or any way that works for you. Place Value Charts Complete the place value charts. Put your answer on the line next to each question. Make sure that your writing is legible. You may use flashcards, websites, a matching game, or another creative way you think of to practice your facts. If you use a website please record the specific website that you visited. Goal: 1 hour per week. The BEST way to practice is a short amount of time, 10-15 minutes, 3-4 days a week. The attached multiplication quiz will be given the first week of school to see if the facts have been mastered. The sheet should be completed in less than 4 minutes!Total Time Practiced over the Summer ______________________What is 100 more than this number? ______________________ What is 1,000 more than this number? ______________________ What is this number rounded to the nearest ten? ______________ What is this number rounded to the nearest hundred? _______________ What is this number in expanded form? ______________________ What is the value of the largest digit? ______________________ What is the place of the smallest digit? ______________________ What is 500 less than this number? ______________________ What is 10 times this number? ______________________ What is 100 times this number? ______________________ What is half of this number? ______________________ What is twice this number? ______________________What is 100 more than this number? ______________________ What is 1,000 more than this number? ______________________ What is this number rounded to the nearest ten? ______________ What is this number rounded to the nearest hundred? _______________ What is this number in expanded form? ______________________ What is the value of the largest digit? ______________________ What is the place of the smallest digit? ______________________ What is 500 less than this number? ______________________ What is 10 times this number? ______________________ What is 100 times this number? ______________________ What is half of this number? ______________________ What is twice this number? ______________________What is 100 more than this number? ______________________ ................
