Please remember to keep your child reading all summer long!3rd grade Parent Child Book Event 3rd Grade News Students competed with their parents in Jeopardy one evening this spring, after reading The Littles. Asbury Woods came to visit and we did an OWL MYSTERY event. When we had our WOW Word Celebration and Assembly, Rashawn Moss from Mrs. Anderson was one of the lucky students to push a cream pie into Mr. Boam’s face. It was great! Mrs. Pasko and Ms. Vegas also were chosen and they BOTH “pied” Mr. Boam too. The children loved it! Our Kindergarten Parent Night had a good turnout. We hope that all of the information will be helpful to our families this summer. Thanks, Miss Russo. Our concert on the 24th went very well, thank you, Mrs. Trask. It was nice to see all of the parents and families. The Zoo Field Trip took place on May 30th. It is always a good time and a great way to end the year. Thank you for your cooperation and participation this year. 1st Grade News Spring was the perfect time for a visit from Asbury Woods Nature Center. The first graders have grown so much this school year. Your children have become more independent readers but they still need active and involved parents throughout the summer.? What a wonderful year we have had with your children and we thank you for sharing them with us this year We were so lucky to have had the chance to take two field trips this past month. We got to attend the Sea Wolves game as a PSSA reward incentive for all of the hard work. We hope their scores will show all the work that they put forth during their test days. We also went to Frontier Park and had a day with the LEAF program. It was a beautiful day! We have been busy in our classroom as well. Some of our students got to read Because of Winn Dixie and the others read Al Capone Does My Shirts. What great novels the students got to experience!!!! We know many students are going to want to read the other books in the Al Capone series so we hope they get the chance. We completed our science unit on land and water and the classes did fabulous investigating about particular states. Some students were even lucky enough to have some of the states send them some information and little goodies! We cannot believe how much these kids have learned in math this year! 2nd Grade NewsSalwa and Emery at Mini Society We started the spring learning about caterpillars and life cycles as they turn into butterflies. The students got to watch their caterpillar grow every day and observe the massive changes that occurred from caterpillar to butterfly. As our chrysalis started to wiggle and get ready to hatch…we all got a little bit nervous because…it SNOWED! Lucky, for our little creatures, the weather turned once again and we were able to release them on a warm day! If you happen to see a butterfly fly by this summer do your child a favor and test their knowledge ask them what they learned about butterflies! During our Math classes we learned double digit addition and subtraction. Learning how to borrow was quite a challenge but in the end we had pretty good success across the grade level. We are ending the year with money…identifying coins, counting coins and dollars and making change. We are emphasizing that this is a life-long skill that they must master! Parents can help by challenging kids to count coins around This past month we have been working with decimals and fractions as well as reviewing all of the concepts from this school year. PLEASE be sure to make time to read with your child this summer and to practice the math skills they worked so hard to learn this year. Please visit the Bayfront Library ~ it is an amazing library!
