Use of Reception play area

At the end of the school day, parents and children are welcome to remain in the school playground. That said we ask all parents and children to exit the Reception play area after school. In recent times, the staff have been preparing for outdoor lessons for the next day and the resources have been moved. Please help us to help your children’s learning by ensuring that we can organise the area effectively.

Woodwind lessons

Unfortunately Mr Lloyd is still unwell, therefore from September, we are offering children the chance to have music lessons with Mrs Bywater who will run her lessons on Tuesday mornings. If any children are interested in learning the flute, saxophone or clarinet, please complete and return the slip towards the end of this newsletter. In the meantime, if you have any queries regarding the lessons or musical instruments, she is happy for you to contact her - mobile 07931 341221 or helbywater@yahoo.co.uk

Thank you to Iain Haire

A huge thank you goes to Iain Haire (father of Natasha) and long standing member of our Mellor Community. Iain has kindly purchased for school the necessary equipment to help us mark netball courts and create our own playground designs.

Fat Dads

The local football enthusiasts the ‘Fat Dad’s’ who play on our school field have not only been scouted for the England team but have also kindly donated £500 to school. We are most grateful for their support.

Stranger Danger

From time to time we remind parents and members of the wider community that should any individual be seen in the school vicinity acting suspiciously or loitering to please inform us.

Fruit Scheme

We have been advised that the Free Fruit Scheme for children in Nursery to Year 2 will not be operating during the last week of term; therefore please send your child in with their own fruit on a daily basis during the last week. Thank you.

Missing Sports Kit

We are missing a sizeable amount of junior sports kit. Missing football kits consist of red tops & black shorts and netball kits consist of red tops and red shorts. Please have a good look at home and return washed kits to school as soon as possible.

Staff News

• As you know, we have appointed Miss Trivett as our new Year 5 teacher for next year. Miss Trivett met the children on Thursday this week and is very much looking forward to starting in September.

• Following rigorous interviews, we are delighted to announce that as of September, we will have two apprentices working to support teaching & learning in the classroom and in the office.

o Miss Adshead will be working as a teaching assistant.

o Miss Bailey will work both in the office and will be supporting the teaching staff. Both ladies will bring a fresh set of skills to our school and we look forward to working with them in September.

• At the end of this academic year, Miss Jones will be leaving Mellor Primary School to work in a new school in Derbyshire. Miss Jones has worked in school since October 2011 and has had a wide range of responsibilities supporting teaching & learning across the school. We wish her every success in her new role. Thank you Sally.

Parents Maths Evening Workshop

Thank you to the parents who attended Thursday’s workshop on communication and reasoning in Mathematics. From the comments received, the Maths proved challenging and interesting. Further requests for additional ongoing workshops have been made and we will endeavour to do this next year.

Sports Day

Competitive sport does exist at Mellor Primary School! Thanks to all parents who supported both the infants and junior sports days. The final result was close fought with Merlins narrowly missing out on a first win as Kestrels once again proved victorious.
