Unit #4 World Religions- Mind Maps

Unit #5 World Religions- Mind Maps

Directions: for each of the five major religions in the world today you will be creating a mind map to represent your learning. Mind maps are a creative way to represent radiant thinking. I will be showing you some samples of what a mind map should look like in general. The following criteria will help you to include the essential items within your mind maps.

Criteria:

1. Create mind maps for each of the following religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam

2. Start with a central idea- Name of the religion

• Put it in the middle of the paper

• Decorate it or write it in a way that you feel describes it best

• Symbol or picture behind or around it

3. From the central idea branch off in many different directions with main ideas about your central idea

• These branches are not bubbles or circles around words

• Use lines to connect ideas together- creativity can be used

• Put your words on the lines

• Key words rather than sentences

4. From those branches create smaller branches that give the details or more information

• These should be smaller in size than the branch they are coming off of

• Use color and key words to make details stand out

• Pictures or symbols are important to use

5. Other details to keep in mind:

• From the central idea to the last set of branches you should go from larger to smaller in your representation

• Color is very important and using it to distinguish between ideas is useful or to make an idea stand out

• Print out words rather than cursive writing and make sure it is readable

• Use arrows, icons or other visual aids to show links between different ideas

• Pictures or symbols are important where ever they can be drawn to represent an idea on your mind map

• This mind map is for you to use in order to make deeper connections to the main ideas of each religion. Make it your own!

6. Creativity is very important! Your main ideas should stand out on your mind map when you are finished.

7. Content information that needs to be included in your mind map:

• When it was founded

• Where it was founded

• Founder or not

• Holy books

• Symbols

• Holy sites

• Holy days
