Local Environmental Problems Assignment NAME: ________________________

BTT1O for Science

My topic: ______________________

You have been given one of the following local environmental problems, listed on the back of this handout. Prepare a 5-10 minute presentation and deliver it to class using PowerPoint.

**Remember, PPoint is a VISUAL medium. You need to summarize your text and, if possible, have no more than 12 words per slide….lots of photos and graphics. If you must have more text…make more slides.

Mr. Weigand will show you how to use the “notes and handouts” options in PPoint.

Topics you should include:

1. Nature of the Problem – the ‘basics’ and the specific harm done

2. Who is involved?

3. What is being done about the problem?

4. What should be done about the problem? Why not give up?

5. How can we help?

6. Any other information that is relevant.

PowerPoint Presentation suggested details…

1. Title Slide (1 slide)

• Title of presentation, name, date

2. Introductory Slide (1 slide)

• Informs your audience as to what will take place during your presentation.

3. Content slides (5-10 slides)

• Remember – PowerPoint is a VISUAL medium…make sure there are relevant pictures and graphics to support your information. A maximum of 12 words per slide is also a good guide to follow.

• I would suggest using and printing the “Notes Pages” to prepare notes for this presentation. Please refrain from simply reading the text from your slides. Your presentation should include more detail than the brief summaries included on your slides.

• What you should include:

a) Nature of the Problem – the ‘basics’ and the specific harm done

b) Who is involved?

c) What is being done about the problem?

d) What should be done about the problem? Why not give up?

e) How can we help?

f) Any other information that is relevant.

4. Summary (1 slide)

• Summary of important points made during the presentation.

5. Works Cited (1 or more slides, as necessary)

• All references used, displayed in the correct format. Minimum THREE sources.

• Recommend using for formatting your references. Copy the reference and paste it into your ‘Works Cited’ slide, directly.

• APA format for references is preferred.

6. Quiz Slides (optional (small extra credit) – 3 questions or slides, maximum)

• Create some multiple choice questions, based on information from your presentation, to quiz your audience after your presentation. Questions should range from simple to challenging…but not be impossible to answer! Please don’t print them.
