Important Notes and Reminders for Preparing Your Presentation

1. No printing of web-based internet related material. Use a pen and pencil to research and write down crucial information. Or copy selected information to an appropriate file.

2. Copying and pasting some direct text from an internet site to your Power-point is allowed… but DO NOT PLAGARIZE FULL TEXT. Remember some text or pictures will have to be re-formatted on your Power-point presentation.

Design Concepts

1. Make it Visible – at least 24 font should be used

2. Keep it simple – the audience should have the essential idea of the slide by 5 seconds after the slide appears.

o use text sparingly

o use no more than 6 lines of text per slide

o use no more than 7 words per line of text

o avoid using a number of text slides in a row during the presentation. Mix it up by inserting graphs, pictures and charts to allow a better flow of slides

3. Make it clear – if the information on the slide is difficult to see and read, the audience will be trying to understand the slide instead of listening to the presenter.

o use a clear, legible font

o use complimentary colours. Yellow and white are not good text colours.

4. Be consistent – stay with the layout, colour scheme, font, etc. throughout the entire presentation.
