2013 Science FairDear Parents and Students, Herbert Akins will have its 2nd Annual Science Fair Thursday, January 17, 2012. Participation is open to all students in grades K through 5. Please read both the information given to your child and the paragraph below. Parents must sign and return the bottom section of this letter to your child’s teacher by Friday, November 9 (Tuesday, November 13 for Track 3). Your signature confirms you have read and understood the information about our Science Fair.This year a selected science project can be from one of the following categories. (1)Experiments(2) Models/Demonstrations3rd-5th grade projects will be judged. Each category will have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner. The “Best of Show” and 1st Place winners in 3rd-5th grade will be invited to go to the Regional Science Fair tentatively set in February 2013. Continue reading and gathering info. Begin to plan what your project will look like (draw a sketch in your log and gather materials you will need to construct your display)Week 3: ______________________ Write your report. Prepare to present your report to the class. If your project is an experiment, conduct the experiment many times. Take notes on what happened and compare results. Week 4/5:_____________________ Construct your project and display. Classes will be called to set up their projects so everyone doesn’t come at the same time. Track 4 students will be tracked out, but they can bring their projects to school that day. More information will be given for Track 4 at a later date. All projects need to be in place by 3:15. Judging will begin at 3:30.
