INSTRUCTIONS – 50 AMP INSTALL K IT
[Pages:2]INSTRUCTIONS ? 50 AMP INSTALL KIT
This kit allows you to re-locate your Hughes Autoformer near or inside your RV's electrical compartment. This kit is for RV's with 50 amp systems.
IMPORTANT: Failure to wire as instructed may cause personal injury and could cause damage to equipment. Installation should be done by an experienced/qualified RV electrician if you do not feel comfortable attempting this yourself. These instructions will work with MOST manufactured RVs, but we cannot guarantee results.
WARNING ? TURN OFF ALL A.C. POWER BREAKERS. REMOVE THE POWER CORD FROM THE PARK POWER. IF YOU HAVE AN INVERTER, TURN IT OFF.
- Follow your power cord to its connection at the RV. It will be in a metal "transfer switch" box. (If your RV has a cord reel installed, its connection box may be too small for the wiring. Try to locate the transfer switch box.)
- Remove the cover from the box and look carefully at the wires coming in from your cord. There are four (4) wires: #1 GREEN (GROUND), #2 WHITE (NEUTRAL) #3 BLACK (HOT), #4 RED (HOT).
- Write down the colors associated with each of the wires. Don't take chances! The best way is to tag each wire, one at a time. Now, disconnect the wires of your cord going into the box. Remove the cord from the box.
- Install the new 5' long cord (furnished with the kit) into the box where you removed your own power cord. Attach the new wires color-for-color to the wiring in your RV. Tighten all connections. Replace the cover on the box.
- Remove the cover from the receptacle (furnished with the kit). Remove the knock-out that fits your original RV cord size.
- Cut and strip your original cord wiring as shown. Insert this end through the opening of the furnished receptacle. Looking at the inside of the receptacle with the cord toward you, the green screw is for the GREEN wire (ground). Opposite of the GREEN screw is the screw which should be labeled WHITE this is for the WHITE wire. The other two screws to the left and right are for the black and red wires. It makes no difference if you have the black or red on the left or right. Just make sure the GREEN wire goes to the green screw, the WHITE wire to the screw labeled WHITE. Tighten all connections.
- At your option, attach the receptacle to the wall inside your RV's compartment. Install the cover.
- To install the Hughes Autoformer, simply connect it between the new receptacle and the new 5' cord and turn on the breakers.
- To bypass the Hughes Autoformer, just unplug it and connect the 5 foot cord directly to the new receptacle.
