Food Science 12 – Digestion Poster Project

Human Biology 11 – Unit 4 Project – Disorders of the Digestive Tract

Task:

For this project, you must create a poster about a disease or disorder of the digestion system. You should use the notes we have discussed in class and the biology 11 textbook to help you compare how a regular digestive system functions compared to one with a disorder/disease.

Your poster will include the following:

• A diagram showing the digestive system in the body.

• Labels of all important organs involved in digestion.

• Name of disease/disorder.

• What organ(s) are involved in the disease/disorder.

• A description of the disease/disorder (What is it? How do you get it? What does it affect? Is your daily food intake affected? (How?) Cures? Treatments? Symptoms? Life Expectancy? Etc)

• At least 3 images.

• At least 5 interesting “Did you know?” facts.

* You will be marked according to the rubric given to you, so please pass this in with your project.

* All your resources must be listed on your poster (the back is fine). NO plagiarizing! This will result in a grade of 0!

* You will have 3-4 classes to work on this.

* Poster must be done on 11x17 size paper. You may print information and glue it OR do it by hand.

Choose from the list of options below – one student per disease/disorder.

|Colon Cancer |Celiac Disease |Irritable Bowel Syndrome |Diverticulitis |

|Crohn’s Disease |Ulcerative Colitis |Stomach Ulcers |Stomach Cancer |

|Gall Stones |Cirrhosis of the Liver |Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease |Appendicitis |
