It was March of 1979, in a basement in North Buffalo where Crash Cadillac was formed. At the helm was Don Vaccaro on lead guitar and vocals along with two of his students, Chris Lepovich on bass guitar and Chris Rusin on rhythm guitar along with them was Jim Mercurio on drums, Louie LaDuca keyboards & sax, Julian Golan on keyboards, Harry Cratsley lead singer and Kevin Knorr on sound.
Don Vaccaro is still at the helm and Jim Mercurio is back on drums now for the last 7 years. Along with Don and Jim, the current Crash Cadillac consists of Bob Steff (bass guitar), Frank Marini (Keyboards) and Linda Giancarlo (vocals).
Through the years, other members have included, , Bud Kiebzak (keyboards), Wayne Collingsworth (bass guitar), Lou Reczek (bass guitar), Lou Cedro (drums), Bob Mazierski (drums) Jean Lavin (drums), Jack Borgosz (drums), Keith Spurlock (drums), Sara D’Erico (vocals), Steve Hunter (sax & flute), Bob Rhoades (vocals), Frank Vence (vocals).
Where did the name Crash Cadillac come from? This is one question we are asked regularly, so here’s the answer: The guys were getting ready for their first real gig and realized they had no name but nothing they came up with sounded right. Then one night, Harry Cratsley, the original lead singer, showed up late for practice and came in saying “I crashed my cadillac”. It was then decided that they would be Crash Cadillac and the T-Street Cruisers. T-Street was a short name for Tonawanda Street in Riverside where many would cruise up and down the street back in the 70’s. T-Street Cruisers was eventually dropped and the band is now known only as CRASH CADILLAC.
Crash Cadillac is still going strong with a very busy schedule (see below). We thank each and every one of you for your support over the years and hope that you continue to follow us for many years to come.
